Thanks Michael, appreciate the swift reply.
What prop did you end up using?

Janole,

The Hokusei is just a rebranded Skywing with very small differences.

I have a Hokusei 39" Sbach and the only difference is a small piece of foam on the underside of the fuselage near the tail and the rudder is made a little longer to match this piece evenly.

Not sure about the Winners Model but they sure do look like Skywings.

You can get a Hokusei (actually a Skywing) in the US at f3aunlimited.com.

The Hokusei is made by Skywing but to the Hokusei specs.
Can't say how it flys or what its like but it is built in the Skywing factory.

Thanks Michael.

Do you think the 14x6 is a better match for this particular motor/plane?
If so, which brand would you go for, please? (Little limited here in NZ.....)
(Feel free to PM me if you don't want to annoy any sponsors!)

Rgds again.

Where have you been hiding master of pattern and 3D demo flights.

The skywing epp hybrids are so great that 3dhs took over their exclusive rights to the US market and now import (Skywing) 3dhs 48" epp extra 330SC and Yak54 under 3dhs paintjob and tweaks.

The telinks are a lot smaller, fly a lot smaller, but do handle impact a lot better than skywing.

If you want a ranking then here it is:

Toughness: Telink, Skywing, Balsa.
Balsa flying familiarity: Balsa, Skywing, Telink.

My Skywings will do everything my balsa planes can do including tumbles and high energy moves. Sorry but the telinks or the hobbyking epp yakk55 just can't compare.

I'm just about to take a couple of hours off and go fly.
In the car I have the Domin8trix ready to maiden and a fresh Skywing MXS ready to maiden.

Great days.

those F3AUnlimited SBachs look pretty good! I've never seen a balsa model with epp skin? What would the benefit to that be?

Likely these:

1 Absorb a little impact
2 costs less than monokote
3 saves processing time as they don't have to be ironed on and shrunk
4 easier to just paint and glue on the epp than cut and iron monokote

Just guessing here but I think that covers it.

I have one of the Sbach hybrids. Looking forward to getting it in the air.

Speaking of Hokusei Sbachs, has anyone flown or know of someone else who has flown the all balsa 55" Hokusei Sbach? Been eyeing that but not having heard of anyone having flown 1 and finding that every scaleish Sbach so far has been either super tail heavy or having a overly sensitive tail, makes me gun shy.

Only Sbach I know that flys well is the Sebart but that 1 is stretched to make it fly good. Piolt RC's 18% has CG or pitchy issues. Lets not talk about the HK one.. we all know its super tail heavy.
