Here is a quad (not mine) with a pusher prop, that has forward flight potential.
Not sure what kind of speeds were attained.

That design isn't good, because when the quad is tipped forward for maximum acceleration, the 5th prop is trying to drive it down into the ground.

Yes true. Possibly needs some tilt on the pusher prop, or perhaps increased rotation on the front props.

Even with tilt on the pusher prop, once the front props are running flat out, that's it you can't push from the back any harder or the thing will tip over too far and crash from no lift.

The propellers (in combination with the use motors and batteries) define your theoretical maximum speed. If you want to be faster (and do not want to enter fancy rpm range) you have to use other propellers, towards quadratic (so instead of a 10x4 -> 8x6, 7x7). They will not perform that good when hovering, but they will allow you to fly faster forward (or upward (or downward)) (if enough power is present).

best regards

Ferdinand

i dont think diving towards the ground like that counts as forward flight speed

Agreed, i hit 140kms at around 5:25 in the video, i wasn't diving it was flat out, i use EPI OSD, and another OSD which i have been testing
Today i try and go faster

Gents,
The OSD verification of this video for a records claim is fairly good, but unfortunately proves the 120kph claim to be false as was pointed out. The only interesting multicopter speed record should be for level flight runs in headwind and tailwind to average it out. Fast descents don't count since we don't care about multicopter terminal velocity or inverted flight. When you view the video's OSD displayed altitude, KPH, and heading to the east and west runs you can see that when he did hold altitude briefly in both directions at about 45M, the top GPS ground speed was about 50kph to the east and 60kph to the west. That shows about a 55kph/35mph which is a very normal and close to top average multicopter lateral speed.

So if there are claims of high multicopter speed, lets standardize the verification rules to video showing:
--speed while level for 200M verified by OSD GPS groundspeed and distance.
--wind verified by multiple runs east to west or north to south verified by OSD compass.
Have fun and fly safe!
Cheers,
Jim

This is what I am looking for....I haven't used my Aerospace education in a very long time so I don't recall how to calculate this but I know the theoretical limit is based on the thrust avaliable from the props.....I'll look around.
