Ailerons installed. Manual says to use medium CA but I used thin as I feel it makes for a stronger bond and does not clump up at hinge center where I want easy flexing. Horns installed with medium CA per instructions. Servos centered and rubber grommets installed with brass sleeves flat side down. After screwing down I unscrewed them and added thin CA to the wood to give added strength.

Step 014

The hardware kit comes with 8 small washers. The assembly manual doesn't indicate where they go but I'm using them against the control horn as shown. Once tightened down I'll drop a dab of medium CA onto the nut to keep it in place.

Installing E-flite 25 - 46 Electric Retracts - mains completed

These should offer trouble-free landings. Well worth the added effort!

Nosegear Install - retract comparison

The nosegear retract supplied with the kit mounts from the bottom whereas the E-flite retract mounts from the top. In addition the E-flite is considerable larger. I have spent the better part of the day cutting and trimming the existing mount to fit the E-flite retract. I'll post photos of the the modifications to the pocket and new mounting rails in a day or two.

Thanks Bob. It was a toss up between the blue and white or the red and white as both color schemes look fantastic on this airframe. My final choice was more of 'keep it in the family' as my fleet is predominately red and white.

Good luck with your maiden flight!

Nosegear Install - continued

After much trial and error I feel that I'm nearing completion on this phase of the build

Before testing your servo to steering arm connection I strongly suggest that you set up a mix for the nosegear servo. This will cut power to the servo when the landing gear is up. Set up as follows.

I'm using a Spektrum DX7s transmitter.

Mix 1
RUD > AX2
Rate: 100%
100%
Offset: 0%
Trim: Inh
Sw: Gear0

Reinforce the bridge between the two elevator parts

I saw this done on another build thread and... 'an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure'.

Elevator install

Installing the stock hinges did not go well. One of the hinges nearest to the fuselage got hung up and just would not go in completely leaving me with a uneven gap. CA can be very unforgiving. I let it dry overnight and cut and trimmed the hinges flush with the surface and made new slots for Du-Bro small nylon pin hinges No. 118. Test fit them to make sure they would seat properly; had to trim back part of the hinge to get it into the stabilizer section before mixing up some 30 min. epoxy. Tip: before using epoxy on pin hinges bush a little Vaseline on the pin hinge portion and melt it with a heat gun to prevent the epoxy from getting into the hinge area and binding up the hinge.
