Cutting the foam

As the aircraft artwork was to be printed onto a lightweight material to be attached to the outside of the Depron, the supporting internal structure could be lightened somewhat.

I also wanted to add strength to the fuselage and wings with CF tube so the whole thing would be very durable in those forced landing incidents I tend to find myself in on the odd occasion!!!

For the purposes of the kit these part would be cut using a specialist machine rather than my hobby knife

Hey Bert, many thanks for the support there!

Being an awesome kit maker yourself do you have any advice for a kit making wannabe?

Great looking model with beautifully drawn graphics! I also draw my designs in illustrator, so I understand all of the time it takes to get it right. I think it will make a wonderful kit.

Sorry to hear your suffering! I've rustled up a couple more pics. Plus a sneak peak at the natural predator of the Fw190!!! I'll post more on the next stage of assembly this evening.

No more vids at the moment I'm afraid but there will definately be more to come as I'm still trying to find the best power & motor combination.

I have been using an experimental 8.5mm x 23mm coreless motors on big Hyperion 240mAh 1s batts in the hope it would provide enough torque to drive a gear ratio of 3.3:1 on a 5030 or 5043 prop. It does initially but it soon has issues and power drops quickly even at 3.6:1 ratio. The motor ends up 'pulsing' like the battery is nearing full discharge - except it hasnt???? Still not sure why - motor wants more amps than can be sustained maybe - but the motor manufacturer is not willing to help.

So I'm testing out 5g brushless motors on 1s. Only bench tested at the moment but the setup seems to provide all the power needed plus a bit of WEP!!!

Wow, deadbird. Just WOW!

The FW190 is my favourite Axis bird as well, seconded by the Stuka.

As for funding... Have you heard of Kickstarter or Crowdfunder? They could be a funding venue for you.

Any more information on pricing or progress?

Cheers!

Deadbird, your detailed graphics really make the plane pop! You've taken the 'printed warbirds' idea to the next level, and honestly, it makes me want to build one of these.

Even more than a whole kit, I'd be interested in (paying for) a "PDF kit" -- plans plus the skins. Please let me know if you'd like to try out this sort of idea.

As above :-) Not really interested in paying for and shipping of a bit of Depron
It's the info and graphics component which has value and my interest.
PS: 16" span is Small not 'Micro' :-)

Another Wow!

The research you did, and the amount of detail that you put into it, really shows, and really gives the plane its appeal and market value. I'd buy one in a heartbeat. It's truly a beautiful little Butcher Bird! Kurt Tank would be proud!

I like the PDF concept, but having no suitable printer am wondering if anyone has experience using Kinkos to print skin?
