WattAge Crazy Max 3D

Well, Anybody know anything?

All I know is the news release in RCM October. I want to check one out. Haven't seen any reviews and can't find any info anywhere else. I'm chomping at the bit!

...you mean the 'crazy 8'? i was at hobbie people and asked about it yesterday and was informed that its scheduled for release around thanksgiving. it looks like a fun aerobat, full arf, pre covered and almost ready to go....price is $89.

...btw, if its the same plane youre talking about, its far from a slowflyer!

Crazy Max and Crazy 8 are different

Crazy Max is a Mini Max with a reinforced tail, fuselage, and a fully symmetric wing. It uses the 370 motor and gearbox (instead of the standard 280). On 8 of our 800mAH NIMH AAA cells, it has super vertical and is really really fun flyer for small fields.

The Crazy 8 is an all wood aerobatic plane designed for the growing popularity in 450-480 size motors like the Multiplex Turbo 450, Velkom 2027, or MPI Cobalt 400.

We originall flew the Crazy 8 with the turbo 450 and 800AR's but with the availability of the CP1300 cells, the flights and flight times are even better.

Both are due around the end of November.

Genebond
I've looked all through my oct RCM and can't find it-could you tell me a page number. I have just retired my mini max fuse but after 5 planes I finally learned to fly on the mini so instead of another mini-max I would love one of these crazy max's. Long live the mini-max!

The price is 49.99 through Hobby People Mail Order. I'm sure our dealers will have similar pricing.

Mike: Thanks for the info! I'll be in line for it. The LHS can get it through Global I assume... Too bad the CS-10's are out of stock, had to buy some SL110's (expert). 15-30A? Wow! Must be some *serious* vertical!

Thomas: Top of page 12.

My MiniMax now has ailerons, but the weather's too bad to test! Built a BluCor wing for it, worked OK in the front yard, but too much wind and backwards servo!

You aught to try the MiniMax Motor/gear on a LiteStik -- what a blast. 2 tie wraps to the top of the stick and let 'er rip... (use a 5a ESC)

Later!

Mike,

what will the gear box ratio be?

If you can offer like a 5:1 and a 6 V 400
plus enough ground clearance for a 13 x 6
you will get it to hover on eight 500s.

That would be the killer backyard flyer.

400!!!!

The Crazy Max comes with the same gearbox housing as the Mini Max.

But inside is a 6 volt, 370 motor and a 3.67:1 gear ratio.

On 8 cells (5/4AAA 800nimh) and our stock prop using lightweight equipment it will not quite sustain hover. However the speed is great and overall flight is exciting. Takeoff roll is almost zero.

But with the switch to the APC SF prop, we've been hovering no problem.

As for the ESC, the motor stock is pulling under 15 amps static so 15 is reasonable.

However, if you go to individual aileron servos, the 1/2 amp current capacity of the BEC in the 15A is too small so you have to bump to the 30 amp. Most 30 amp ESC's have a 1amp power supply which will take the load of 4 servos.

I'm pretty sure the Crazy Max would handle the 400 but the weight of beefing up the fuselage, plus the larger motor, gearbox, and batteries might negate the advantages. The higher wing loading could kill the cool slowflying capcity of the stock airplane.

It is big fun!

The shipment is expected here by December 1.
I am hoping to get it here for Thanksgiving. It is all up to how long it takes to get them through customs.
