I found my CG to work best at about 2.75" back from the leading edge. This meant my battery was right in front of the aileron servo.

Sweet!! Pulled the trigger on this, the power combo, landing gear, and 8 gensace lipos from hobbypartz. Can't wait for it to get here!

Was leaning towards the 3DHS offerings, but they've been out of stock I didn't want to wait anymore for a 30" epp plane. Planning on using this as my "Hey, that area is big enough to fly" plane when I'm out and about.

Looks really nice. I recently ordered the first in the crack series and other than the tail pushrod set up it went together very quick and the absents of carbon truss on the tail and using the 45 cut epp strips for rigidity instead is nice and does the job fine,should go much easier for those new to assembling epp kits. The epp pre hinged control surfaces cut a lot of time off the build as well and as long as you use decent quality servos control authority and centering is fine. Any chance these planes will be available in a discounted unprinted version? The color scheme is really nice but i realize it drives up the price considerably to have the print work applied.

Sweet! Can't wait. Hopefully it'll ship soon so I can start the build. Was going to pull the trigger on the crak-yak (still may), but went to order that one today and saw this and changed my mind! This just looks way cooler IMO, and I figure from what I've seen about TH, you can't go wrong.

I need to replace my olds Slick, the KE into a tent pole did it in

Way to much glue on it now.

Anyway, will the old 8amp esc work with the new motor needed for this slick? I'm affraid if I added the piece back to the motor to switch it to a flush mount it would change the intended CG area...

Top and bottom fuse, horizontal fuse, fuse supports, SFGs, wings, horizontal stab & elevator (pre-hinged), and vertical stab and rudder (pre-hinged) Views: 314 Hardware pack with control horns and goodies, along with the wood main wing spar and the two pushrods. Views: 411 Hardware pack with the power combo goodies! This is gonna be SiiiCK! Views: 360 First we are going to glue the wings to the horizontal fuse and install the main wing spar. Here the Extra Slick is upside down. Put some wax paper down so you don't get the plane stuck to your work table. Views: 331 Run a thin bead along one of the wings where it attaches to the fuse. Views: 301 Then get your hands dirty and smear it around. This makes sure there is even glue contact. Views: 288 Then place with wing next to the fuse, and slide them together to glue in place. You can work it back and forth a little to promote glue setting, but only do that a few times before holding it together for a moment. Then repeat with the other side. Views: 333 Place some wax paper over your plane and let the glue set... Views: 273 ... and use some sort of weight to hold everything flat. Views: 293 Next use a sharp hobby knife to cut away all the tabs in the main wing spar's slot. Views: 317 Next, take the wing spar and run a bead of glue along the length. Views: 298 Next, use your fingers to gently pull apart the spar slot, and insert the spar. Views: 287 Once the spar is in the slot, gently widen it more and run a bead of glue along the non-glued side of the spar... Views: 337 ... here you can see the glue. Views: 298 Then, close the gap and hold tight... Views: 286 Push it together evenly, and hold for a few moments as the glue sets. Views: 267 Once the glue has some hold, use some weight to hold everything in place. A dozen or so books work fine. Views: 294 Next we are going to glue the horizontal stab and elevator to the fuse. Views: 260 Run a bead of glue along the rear of the fuse. Putting the glue on the fuse rather than the stab ensures the correct amount of glue is used. Views: 260 Then smear it around with your finger for even glue coverage. Views: 260 Place together and hold together for a moment while the glue sets. Views: 261 Once the glue sets up a little, you can put a piece of wax paper over it and put another weight on top. Views: 455 Go ahead and install your servos before you glue the top and bottom fuse on. The output shafts on all the servos are towards the front of the plane. It would be a good idea to turn on your servos and ensure they are centered at this time. Views: 360 Once you have the servos glued in, go head and glue the bottom fuse on. Dry fit it, then run a bead of Welders along the length of the bottom fuse and set it in the corresponding keys. Views: 341 Now go ahead and install the top fuselage. Again run a bead of glue along the length of it and install. Views: 272 Run a bead along the length of the fuse where the canopy sits, and install. Be sure the canopy is centered both left to right, and front to back. Hole for a moment to let the glue set up. Use some T-pins to secure it while the glue sets. Views: 297 Cut a hole in the fuse trusses for the elevator and rudder servo wires, feed them through, and install the trusses. Run a bead along the bevelled part of the truses and glue to the bottom and side fuselages. Make sure the trusses are even on both sides. Views: 285 Then go ahead and glue the vertical stab/rudder assembly onto the rear of the plane. Line up the stripes on the fuse/vertical stab with those on the rudder assembly, and make sure there is a gap between the rudder counter balance and the vertical stab. Views: 285 Next install the SFGs. Cut the rear half, separate, and install on the front of the wings with some Welders. See following photo. Views: 272 Here is the SFG on the wing. Views: 338 Now to assemble the control arms. For the aileron, use one of the double ended arms that comes with the servo. Line it up as shown with the included wood servo arm extension. Glue with CA. Views: 309 For the installation of the EZ connectors, install the ones for the ailerons onto the control arms. To install the EZ connector on the horn, take the connector in some plyers in one hand, the control horn in the other, and (see next photo). Views: 343 put the black lock washer on some cardboard. The cardboard will provide support for the washer and allow the connector to penetrate. Be careful though, because it will spring across the room if it's not lined up. Twisted Hobbys gave you spares, though. Views: 285 Now go ahead and assemble your pushrods. Take the Z-bend and use the heat shrink tubing to install it to one side of each pushrod. Use some CA to be sure the Z-bend doesn't come out of the carbon rod. Views: 343 Put the Z-bend on the control horns (part that goes on the elevator and rudder). The ones for the rudder and elevator are the #2 horns. Then use some welders to glue the control horns into the elevator and rudder. The horn will go on top of the elevator. Views: 383 Then install the control horns for the ailerons. They are the #1 horns. Glue them into their slots with some welders and slide the Z-bend through. Then slide the pushrods through the EZ connectors. Views: 301 Now we're going to mount the motor. Find the motor mount and use a medium emory board to take the petina off so the glue has something to grab onto. Then glue to the front of the plane with Welders. Views: 402 Then use the four screws to install the motor, and some O-Rings to install the propeller. An 8x4.3 works well. Views: 532 Here's a picture of where I have the ESC and receiver mounted. Make sure the motor is spinning in the correct direction before using heat shrink to make sure the bullets from the ESC to the motor stay on. Views: 459 Then balance the plane. A good CG point is 2.5.-2.75" behind the leading edge of the wing at the root. Use velcro or some tape to secure the battery during the inital flights to find the CG that works best for you, then cutting a slot for the battery Views: 266 Now for those of you that want to fly with the landing gear, it is available separately from Twisted Hobbys. It comes with the wheels, CG gear, wheel pants, and mounting hardware. Views: 264 You will need to drill holes for the wheel axles. Views: 293 Here is the slot on the fuse for the Landing Gear (LG). This needs to be opened up slightly with a modeling knife. Views: 294 Slide the gear through the slot, then slide on the teardroped shaped gear supports on and glue to the fuse. Views: 230 To assemble the wheel pants, there are three parts for each. Glue them together as shown. Views: 234 You can use T-pins to line them up as each piece has two holes. Don't poke the pins through the foam, but slide them through the existing holes to ensure they line up. Don't leave them in too long or they'll get glued in there! Views: 246 Here is the wheel assembly. Put a drop of glue on wheel pant supports out by the holes. Views: 252 Then install the wheel pants onto the pant supports. You can use the T-pins here again to line them up correctly... make sure the pins are taken out before the glue sets... don't ask me how I know. Wait for the glue to set. Views: 260 Then put some glue on a piece of Carbon Fiber rod and poke it through the foam skid. This will keep the rudder off the ground and save your rudder servo and hinge from unneeded abuse. Once that dries, go fly!
