I know....just kidding.....I don't know why, but in a lot of areas of Texas to call somebody an Aggie was a deadly insult....Like where I lived in Texas.....Shephard Air force base was near there...and when I was in school, if you called somebody an Airman, or an Aggie.... you were really trying to insult somebody....

As for the composite vs balsa discussion, I think the driness of the winter atmosphere is causing the balsa to shrink a little and the covering wrinkles - may get a humidifier to control that. "It shrinks?" Just ask George Costanza. Composite no shrink.
Actually the better reason....no wrinkles on composite planes.....because they have no covering....forget the shrinkage entirely...

As for the composite vs. balsa, I think they should put a composite in a wind tunnel before the release them. All the composite planes i have seen have a round bottom. The round bottom has no lift. Causes screwy air. If they were to put them in a wind tunnel they would be forced to go back to the drawing board. The only reason I speak this way is this is a 3dhs thread. Composite dont 3d well at all. Ill stick with the balsa.

I wonder how strong would a composite airframe be if it wasn't rounded? I'm guessing that's why they are round, otherwise they'd likely fold up during a hard snap. Also, I would think if they were a squared shape, it would be hard to keep the flat sides from "drumming" at speed, and eventually breaking apart.

I think you are correct, It has to do with longevity of the airframe. Ben had told me years ago he took a composite plane and cut the bottom flat to give it more lift but was limited to upright lift, therefore in order to keep strength they have to round everything. Which makes a great pattern plane with less flex of the surface. Composite planes aren't cheap, especially if you going after a world championship. In 2011 they were spending 6 grand per plane and were getting several at a time. Its got to be expensive to chase a world championship.
