What did you use for figures on that boat?

Cap Jack

Thanks for the kind words.
My model is a Midwest kit, it runs pretty good and is an unusual looking lifeboat compared to other SAR organizations craft...lack of paint adds to this "gothic appearence".
As for the figures they were purchased at a discount store. They are not a Hasbro GI Joe product, but similar in size with articulating arms and legs. I purchased them as they had "watch caps" and uniforms close to a "Mustang" suit the boat crews wear. The Mustang suit is very warm and a flotation device but it will make you sweat up a storm if you wear it during a long SAR case.

We all have pet peeves in R/C model boat building. Mine is open boats racing around the pond with no crewman at the wheel. I've viewed some beautiful operating models lacking a crew figure at the helm, it just diminishes the builders hard work. There are so many plastic figures availible today at a toy or department store that not having a coxswain ther is no reason not to have a driver.
My weakest build trait is figures, that is, choosing the correct "type", modifying the figure, giving them a realistic pose, and painting them. When I compare my boat figures with the painted metal figures at a model show mine look awful. It's an art form in itself to blend the paint colors into a realistic appearence both in the uniforms and facial areas.. But I make the attempt, I've gotten better over the years. Well, if the boat has an interior helm station you're off the hook Just my 2 cents....

MLB life float detail begins

Started work on the sump pump detail and life float (buoyancy float).

I found some Christmas ornament wire which works great for making beads on the sump pump can. I'll later paint it a more red/orange color an add the CG detail.

The three hatches were also added. They will get another coat of paint to hide the glistening epoxy that affixed them. Later will come vents an hose attachments in this area.

I added the mast braces and power pod on top today. Wires came next. Some are real insulated wires while others are small single strand wire which bends nicely to make it look more "loose" and natural. They will later be painted black and wire hangers added.

This was all I had for reference. The power box was made shorter to allow for the radar beacon to clear it while turning. The mast supports we're slightly altered to fit better.

Two new crewmen came abord. Another is on his way from a different port.

Sump pump detail begins

Repainted with Checy Engine Red (masters paint)

Went with yellow reflective tape instead of white for the sump pump detail. When I start lettering, I'll get that coast guard label on the bottom of the pump can.

Ropes, hooks, vents, hose hook ups are being built now.

More rear float detail coming soon.

Under step radiator

Given a small gap, this was the best that I could design

I have the Midwest issue of this boat, may have to haul it off the shelf and do something with it. Maybe the Dumas 40'er too.
