I couldn't think of anywhere else to ask this question, so here goes...

I'm building my first gasser, a 50cc Extra. I can't get the ignition wire to not touch the exhaust (pitts muffler) in some way, no matter how I route it. I can get it to lay away from the exhaust, but im sure with airloads and vibration, it will eventually touch. I have it spiral wrapped, but not sure how heat resistant that stuff is. Is this going to be OK or do I need to take more steps to make sure it never touches? What does everyone else do?

make a bracket or device to tie the ignition (spark plug) wire onto to keep it off of the muffler...you have to figure out a way to do this...if the wire rubs the muffler OR cowl...it will wear through the outer stainless braid...and that's your shielding conductor (ground) for the spark plug.

I run this over the spiral wrap and gives some more protection, I will also grab a pic of my 87 tonight when I get home that has a DLE 55 with a pitts mounted to get an idea of how my wire is routed

I've got some of that, but wasn't sure how heat resistant it was and not sure how hot the exhaust stacks get.

I think I've got it worked out. I'm making a 3/8" plywood bracket that will come down at a 45 degree angle from the engine box to tie wrap the wire to. Looks like it will work pretty well.

I knew this was the place to ask.

You could try ask at auto part stores for wire heat wrap

I hear ya though with the buildings on two sides any wind we get up there gets rough. Out at Owatonna I would not think twice about throwing something up in that though.
