New 103 is almost ready to fly....can't wait...but during the build, I learned something new and very important that I thought I'd better share with you guys........

Some of you saw my 104 get wadded up in Ohio a couple of weeks ago....well, I had bought a 103 to build, and this weekend I was working on the build when I found something important that caught me by surprise....

On my 104, I used the stock elevator servo extension wires......and my plane had about 180 flights in 15 months or so......I had never once looked again at those extensions......

There was a "chaffed" spot on both of them where they entered the fiberglass tube on the way back to the tail...the insulation was completely worn off of all 3 conductors in both extensions where they had rubbed against the tube. While using those extensions to program my 103 servos in the wings....the motion of the wire while I was shuffling around caused the ground to get into the signal wire and then the positive to get into both....causing my servos I was programming to go crazy mixed with dead......no big deal on the build table...but it would've crashed my 104 for sure had those wires gotten together in the air since when the signal wire gets grounded the Hitec servo's go to "sleep" and when it touches the positive, they jerk around wildly.....

The bottom line...check to see if you have a similar problem on existing planes....and on a new build, protect those wires better where they enter the fuse-tube and where they exit.

Lesson learned.

Thank you guys for the info for my dle 30 flooding problems. I ended up taking the carb apart and cleaning, it was slightly dirty on metering side. Put it back together and the flooding stop but still wont start. It pumps fuel while priming but wont start, wants to start while i flip it but thats it. Checke d the spark and it is giving a nice blue spark

If leaning both neddles doesn't help I would get a carb kit and rebuild the diaphrams and needle valve

We have always wrapped. The servo wires entering the fiberglass tube in foam. Cuts right thru them if you dont

Well....I only have one plane with the tube in it....but it will most definitely get the foam treatment!!

Thanks guys for this info!! I have even worried about using Ty-raps to fasten servo leads to former, so I use pieces of fuel line that I split down one side to go over the edges......better safe than sorry.....

Had a close call just now. Had to land without rudder. She wanted to go left so I circled around twice and plopped her down. No damage.

Ok cool thanks. Yeah i had both needles at 1.5 turns and leaned out the low end about 1/8 turn but just didnt fire. The carb was recently.rebuilt about 3 weeks ago. I replaced the gaskets and diaphram. One question though, on the metering
Side of the carb. The tab that opens the needle when the diaphragm pushes down, how high up should that be or does it need to flush with the carb body

I got to go to my first real airshow today and it was alot of fun. Kevin Coleman in the extra and Super Dave flew the mx2 they both put on a great show.

I'm pretty sure it's flush or slightly below, a friend of mine has a walbro tool that sets the height, each carb is different but I'm sure the dle is just below, look up the carb # and google should have the answer. If not a small engine repair shop should be able to set the height with their little tool

Kevin's a local. We fly at the same airport which happens to be right down the street from where I work so I get to see him fly all the time. He's a pretty good stick and only getting better. I love hanging out at their hangar. Other airshow pilots are always dropping by with some nice toys.
