Hi Guys:

Yes she is a nice flyer I just got back from the field again today and had 2 nice flights and yes Chris I made myself use the rudder and was very happy the way it turned like you say flat with little roll or dive. I will make more of an effort to use the rudder. With no video you will have to take my word that I GREASED THE LANDING !! on flight #1 and just barely nosed it over on flight #2 Having a blast but that thing called work starts tomorrow so I'll hang it up till next week.
Rich I just can't seem to find the time to cover the Sig, I got the mast pod covered and painted now just have to cover the rest of it.I'll do my best.

Bill

Hello Bill,

Nice video, you do look like you enjoy it. I don't don't know if mixing the rudder with the aileron is considered cheating but I like it on my gyros, orientation is always a problem for me so anything that helps me keep it in the air is a plus.

Thanks,
Nils

That's good news............You will find that there is a different "mind set" to flying an autogyry...........you have to "retrim you brain" and forget some of those fixed wing thoughts.
I have noticed these days that I am using mostly rudder for turning and as you now understand that the model will loose less height when turning .I also find that after launching the model ,I then throttle back as I find that it is not required for level flight, and my models fly better at a lower speed .This also helps me keep the model closer ,with a smaller circuit and at the same time easier to see.
I used to find that when I did not reduce the throttle after launch, then the model was allready getting hard to see..
{just the ramblings of a old fart }
Happy Landings

Hi All
I am a little confused flying the firefly
In the air , no problem at all , landings very easy too BUT :
Taking off is so difficult for me !!
Big problem because the gyro cannot go straight , it turns left though I put a wheel on tail
I am trimmed with some left aileron for flying nicely , but this is not the reason as on ground ,with slow rpm rotor, it must not act , I think
I had to take off the 2 motor right to try rolling staight , it helps a little , before that it turned right !

Something wrong somewhere !!
Not much wind , I have to roll some 15 meters before flying and this is quite impossible
thanks for help

Andre:
Welcome to the club I had the same problem and found out that I had one sticky wheel I had the wheel collars a little too tight and pinching the wheel and it dragged making the autogyro pull to that direction on a ROG. Found it by pure chance.

Only 50m? Sometimes mine is nearly out of sight before it leaves the ground. I put a bigger rudder on mine, and it has a skid at the tail. A wheel could allow the tail to move when a skid might not.

........Oops, a late night typo

Here are some pics of the rudder and de-mountable tail unit. I have also cut away the fin to reduce tail strikes in the event of heavy landings and nose-overs. A bit hot at OW, but the new engine coped ok, even without exhaust pipes.
