Just waiting for the sun to go down and I can test fly the 'night version'

Did a bit of different blade testing Sunday, I made a high aspect ratio set up and tried those on a new 2 bladed hub. It took off hands free almost and climbed away into wind. As soon as I turned down wind it just went in at about 45 degrees with me pulling back on the stick as hard as I could. Both blades were destroyed but I kept at it and fitted 2 standard blades. To my surprise it flew fine, just a little quick. So I will stretch a set of standard blades and try again.

Regards

Rich

Here is a 'bits and bobs' video taken over the last couple of days.

The 2 bladed version you will see uses some Aerobalsa blades (2.75" wide jobs to 18" length) I had to add 2 grammes of lead to each tip but they work well as can be expected.
Need to somehow remove the carbon boom as its seems cracked inside the fuselage after a crap landing in the dark as you can see

Fire Fly blade testing (4 min 51 sec)

Official Soundtrack

Hello Rich,

sorry to read about Your mishap with the broken tail boom.
I always thought that the firefly is a little bit to bright to be flown in the dark.......

I found the perfect solution including the according soundtrack:

Sunglasses At Night (3 min 18 sec)

Bye
Mike

Nice one Rich, I like the way the lights reflect off the bottom of the blades

Ya Rich I like that aspect too, The 2 blade set up worked well too didn't take long for them to spin up at all. You could make a tin can fly.

Cheers Gents,
The UC track is 2" less on the night flier, that bit makes a lot of difference. Yes the other one does roll over and has done but not nearly as many times as the night flier. I used an UC I had spare off an ST Discovery, time to make a new wider one me thinks!

On another note I have been asked about a supplier of Fibre Glass sheet in the USA as the Fire Fly uses 1/32" sheet for the head.

Can any of you guys over the pond help out with a link or two to assist the gent in question?

Many Thanks in advance

source of fiberglass plate

go to www.mcmaster-carr.com look for Garolite G10 ,even better than fiberglass, but be forewarned, that site has more stuff that you didn't know even existed.

What's the difference? It seems Garolite is just a brand name.

LG,
The bits of Garolite i have seem to be a bit stiffer than FG but I am sure Gary will be able to tell us for sure?

Anyone started building yet? if so how is it going?? I flew both of mine the weekend and have been trying to practice spot landings, sounds easy but it isn't! well not for me
