450x all the way!!! I have both, not sure why I have the 300x?

450 has a ton more power.

I did just buy a 10T pinion for my 300x, hoping that it flies more like my 450 now....

I would think you can probably fly the 300x in a slightly smaller area than the 450x also, i find that it's relaxing to fly a less powerful heli when you just want to do basic stuff.

They both falli in the category "too big to fly in the hood"

So it doesn't make much of a difference. The 300x is more tame for sure though. I would fly it in the street before my 450. Head Speed is a huge difference between the two. That accounts for noise and scare factor.

And that is exactly why I bought one.

As has been pointed out though, the 450X is just as cheap to crash (possibly cheaper, considering the low price of 325mm blades) and does have more power. I guess it just depends on what you want. Me? I already have a "450" size heli (MSH Mini Protos with 6S power, stretched tail boom and 350mm blades) so the 450X would have been redundant. The 300X was just.... err.... cute.

I've installed a 10T pinion, an ESC with a governor (Castle Phoenix 25) and carbon blades. Running a governed 3200 rpm headspeed and +/- 14 degrees of collective woke it right up!

I went from the 120SR to the 300X and totally dig the 300X. I have a 450X as well, and now that I am waiting for a tail servo for the 300X, I am getting more flight time with the 450X. The scare factor is slowly becoming less and less.
Nice flying in the Vid. I was just about to take my Sim learning, into real life when the tail servo went.

I just picked up a 10T pinion for my 300x. Do you suggest changing ESC's? I really don't have much experience with logging Heli data.

I just want to be sure that the motor and ESC can handle the 10T pinion.

Thanks!
That's what I'm trying to do with the 300X as well. I do things on the sim that I'm just too chicken to try with my nicer helis.

The only reason I went for the 10T pinion is because I needed the "overhead" in the gearing in order for the governor mode to work properly. If you have the stock ESC, the 9T pinion at 100% will give you the same basic power level you see in that video. In fact, here's someone else flying with the stock 9T at 100%, and as you can see it works very well. I'd say try it at 100% with carbon blades, and just increase your collective range a bit before you go to the 10T.

No motor bogging issues with 14 degrees of pitch at 100% (Stock pinion) ??

Well sure, you can bog it!

You really only hit the high pitch ranges for quick starts and stops, and if you lean into it you will bog for sure.

When you run a high collective pitch range you have to use good collective management, but it does give the heli a more lively personality.

I will try some different things with it. Thanks. It's more of a backup for my 450, but I am trying to pep it up a bit.

The biggest change I made was just going to CF blades, running 100% throttle (with the stock ESC) and upping the collective range from stock. Woke it right up!

I only changed to the 10T / Castle ESC because I'm spoiled to governor mode in all my other helis.

Already have the CF blades, Throttle is already at 100%, I need more...

I'm just used to my 450X.

It's like going to your MCPX after a while of flying real Heli's. Uh.... is something wrong with this thing?

Sounds like something is wrong... mine is very punchy, and I have a whole mile less air to work with. I'm not even running the 100% flat curve and it's pretty punchy.

I am comparing it's full pitch pull out, and vertical lines

Anyone know of a good alternative motor? Mine is a lot louder now than it used to be. I might need a motor soon.

Well you cant compare it to a 450 since it doesnt have near the same power as one. I had to try to do nice tic tocs and such with the 300x but my 450 is effortless

Still it is decent stock but if you want more ummph change pinions
