The new 500 certainly seems capable. That glider is a bit small though. I like 'em big when it comes to gliding. And I like a motor to get my model back as well.

On the cub they kept it nice and simple... except, the pilot of the cub cannot release the line, only the pilot of the glider. There is a hardpoint on which to attach the tow string, it sits on the fuse right behind the wing (look at the pic with the flaps).

I did not see any pics of the release mechanism on the glider though.

I am not a huge fan of warbirds but I also think the Glossy covering is ugly!

Use a flat covering.

The release point on the glider is on the tip of the nose. Zoom on on the pics.

Of the recent releases I think the Blade 450x (which was already announced) is the one of most interest to me. The 550's are great but too pricey for a first outdoor heli. Looks like the 450x will be attainable for around $420 or so from one supplier I've used in the past.

As for the planes, cool enough but I think the upcoming Geebee is the most interesting. The glider is too small and just a cute gimmick. The cub is the second coolest in my opinion as it's just a sweet little micro.

DX18 is only $50 more than the JR 11x; and a fraction the cost of the Futaba 18mz

I cant decide if that is quirky or if will be really fun.. orientation will be difficult but it has some sick moves; I wonder how you even program a X-tail airplane?
