Question
XB-70 Plans?

I was looking for some plans for a scale balsa xb-70. Good three ways or other drawings that aren't necessarily meant for rc are good too. No foamies, please. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

You mean the Valkyrie?

I know that someone did a plan for it in the 70's but can't remember whether it was MAN, Model Builder or RCM....

Google "xb-70 model plans"

Turns up a lot of discussion and one guy in Italy that sells a set.

Are you thinking of the Competition Models all balsa kit? Looks like someone is selling the kit plan (or similar). See http://www.myhobbystore.co.uk/produc...-b-70-valkyrie

Try a Search, enter XB-70, set it to Show Threads.

It found 61 threads with XB-70 in their titles. Seems quite a popular model.

Traplet out of the UK sells plans for a balsa slope soaring version. I am about 90 complete on one I started this fall. Not great as far as scale perfection goes, but it looks pretty good from a few feet away.

I think with modern gear you could convert to EDF, but it would be quite a job.

Apologies for being a noob. The xb-70 is one of my favourite models, but rarely has good plans for a decent size model, that I can find at least.

These are the best I have found to date - and I've not seen them posted anywhere else:
https://www.vth.de/shop/warenkorb/ar...3d8c64a40.html

Over 8' long, so a good size. IIRC, It seems reasonably scale other than the nose is a little short. Obviously an ideal candidate for edf these days.

Navigating the german website is a little tricky, but worth persevering and they happily shipped from germany to the UK, so I'm sure further afield wouldn't be an issue either.

How to build flat balsa wings has always perplexed me. Last one I did for a plank racer turned out super warped after I was done. I think the seasonal temp change in the garage killed it. I can't store them anywhere else and I shouldn't expect them to not withstand temp changes. I'm in California so it's not even that much.

Back in the 60s I built one of the flat (profile) B-70 kit out back then. It was all sheet balsa free flight. It used the Baby Bee .049, (pusher) for power. It flew perfrctly right off the board for a fun sport flyer! I seen others fly at the old Sepulveda Basin free flight area in Cali. back then, and they all flew well. I wondered what ever happenened to the design because it flew so well.
Cheers!
