AIR-1 slow build - stand off scale 1:6

I always wanted to build scale model of this plane. Few months ago i found P. Rake's drawings of AIR-1 in FSM as pull out plan and got very excited. Drawings where scaled up and send to a friend for cutting. My intention is to build semi-scale model without too much details, just for fun flying, so there will be some non scale parts for sure.
Scale is 1:6
Wingspan - 1500mm (~60")
Engine - 6,5cc (0.40) for now, will be determined at the end of the build.
Since i don't have too much time for building is going to be slow build.
Here is first shots.

I always thought this would be a nice model in a bigger scale - I will follow your thread. I like the lightening of the ribs

Thanks! Your build was real inspiration for me. I really enjoy it and keep rereading it.

Nice project! I don't remember where I found this picture, but it made want to build one. Maybe the builder will show up here. I'm sure the color scheme is spurious, but it looks nice. It's powered by an OS .15, so it's smaller than yours, and only 3 channel.

Your larger size will make a terrific model.

Should make a nice model at that size - just begging for a .52 FS.

Unfortunately I don't have 4-str. engines, so will have to use what I have at hand. This model from the picture, if I am not mistaken, is from Czech magazine Modelar - 3 channels, 0.15 engine, roughly the same size as original P. Rake design, but much more complicated and heavier. I used to have this issue of the magazine and if I succeed to dig it out may post screenshot of one page of the plan.
Meanwhile I did the second fuse side. Build it on top of the first one.

After poking around a bit, I have to take back my "spurious color" comment...

Little more progress. Reinforcements of the sides are from the same material - 4mm (a shade thinner than 3/16) lite ply. Firewall is 2 layers the same material cross grain.

Keep moving forward. The formers are in place, and front part of the fuse take shape. Few quick check show up that there is no twist or other distortion so far.

I decide to make bends for tail ends. Templates where cut with laser cut parts from 3mm ply, and doubled with 3mm depron. For rudder I used 4 layers of 1.5mm (1/16"), for elevator - 6 layers of 1mm (1/32") balsa strips.
Fuse was fixed firmly over the plan, and rear part was supported by temporary pine strips to maintain the sides straight according to the plan. Cross braces where prepared by pairs to ensure that top and bottom ones are equal. I glued the top braces and after the glue dries, will glue the bottom ones too.

Rudder is drying, and upper formers are on the fuse too.

The tail is almost ready. Weight is not bad so far - stabilizer is less than 1 oz, rudder - almost 1/5 oz.

Thanks! Here and there I am going to incorporate some of my ideas too, so there will be changes on some places from the original plans. Also there will be sheeting of tail to represent the plywood used in the original.
