Better late than never (Club E3D)

Yeah it's old news, but just wanted to share

After having the kit hiding in the closet for 4 months, then another 4 months slowly going thru page 1-4 of the instructions ... in the last 2 weeks a very helpful club member (president of the club in fact) at my local flying field offered to help me finish her up (my workshop had given way to nursury ) - all that's needed is radio and power system installation (all stock recomendation gear), although I might have to re-hinge the ailerons as up travel does not give 45degree deflection.

Had it at the club meeting last nite for show and tell, they couldn't belive it's electric. Hopefully it should maiden in a week or so. (still have the bad taste of the Bandit Bite in my mouth though )

Scheme inspiration from S&E review and leftover green covering that we had.

Good looking.

Did you make the graphics from covering?

Whats the bottom look like?

Wait until you club members see it fly.

Well, all the congrats goes to my friend for the work (which I have passed on to him!); all graphics were cut from covering (he is in the drafting profession btw). Bottom is same yellow and white where the green is, and fuze. Got the last of the servos in the mail (HS-81), so installation should be a snap right after I redo the hinges.

Maiden!

Got a chance yesterday evening, only had one 10xCP1700 made and cycled, but enough for a 4.5min maiden flt need 2 clicks on elevator to trim out, although plane came out a tad tail heavy (CG on spar, controls on 3D rates) for 1st flt imo.

Looks even better in the air.

What's the building in the background? Are you flying this at your field?

Yes, this is at my club field (CORCS); one reason I joined AMA/local club (which is 99% nitro/gas) was once I decided I was going to fly bigger and faster stuff, public spaces weren't the right venue, even though there's plenty of that here and thankfully not much restrictions either. Photo as attached is of the club field, with the buildings-in-progress lot just across the road. The site is home to the new National Weather Center at the University of Oklahoma.

For the maiden I was a tad too nervous and busy with the plane to really put it thru its pace, but I think I noticed much less vert. than expected (then again I might have to cycle the pack couple more times, brushes are worn a bit, and there was significant vibration at 75% or more throttle - most of my flt was at 1/2 throttle or so).

fwiw I have a couple of better AP of my various flying sites at the gallery:

I'm flying my E3D on a Mega 22/20/2 with an MEC gearbox on 10 cells (CP1700, 1900SCR, GP3300) with a 14x7 APC prop. If you call MEC Pete will put together a package for you at a very good price. This package gives very good performance and is cheaper than the Hacker system.

Yeh, I am seriously considering the Mega idea and substituting the $$ for the hacker into a lipo pack.

Dave, I presume:

22/20/2+Phoenix 45 = $199
MEC GB = $50
Pinion = $13

Total = $262 ?
