Holy cow that was fun yesterday. I can't believe how many people showed up. I got video of my smoke system with my keychain camera on the wing. The problem is the 50cc in that causes so much vibration that the footage is quite shaky. I'll likely clip out some parts anyway because it's actually pretty cool but I'm going to have to figure out a better way to secure and pad the camera from the vibration. It works a lot better on smooth setups so far.

It WAS fun yesterday, and your smoke ROCKS.

Yeah someone had a biplane with really good smoke too. Wish the stuff wasn't so expensive. I get one tank per day flying is what I've decided. Fly the plane as many times as I want but 16 oz of smoke

Last Friday I went out to fly at the UVA field. No one was there and it seemed a nice day.

I retrieved my plane out of the truck, fueled up, radio checked, etc and was ready to roll. This would be the first flight for this plane, and the first flight for me in aprox 10 years.

I got the thing in the air, and had a bit of a time getting it to control and trim. However, after an increased heart beat and a series of four letter words the plane seemed to do what it was supposed to do. I proceeded to fly around for a few minutes.

I figured I better get the thing down now that I was able to move it around and somewhat control it. I came in for a landing, too hot, back around.
Lined up with a much better approach, everything looked good. All of a sudden the runway moved! The runway moved to the left at least 2 feet. The plane hit the snow and cracked a couple of sticks, broke the prop and the spinner.

I really wish someone would have warned me about that moving runway.



Good news, the pilot survived.

It is Milt Sanders. He told me he lost a plane recently.

Who has his plane now? I will try to get hold of him.

Thanks Lee. I was able to get in touch with him last night. I returned the remnants I had, except for the battery.

It was still plugged in and was 0 voltage. I was able to get a good charge on it. It looks like all the cells are balancing, and still have good IR. (15,11,11) I'll find a time to get the battery to him.

Thanks a bunch guys! I was really happy to get back as much of the plane as I did. The wing is fixable, but the fuselage is total toast! I was trying to trim it out, when I blinked and it disappeared into the sky. I could hear it, but not see it, so I shut down the throttle. The important thing was getting back all the electronics - thanks Dan! One cell in the battery won't hold a charge. Maybe I should convert it to a 2S battery <ha ha>. -- Milt
