I built a 31" birdofplay kit and decorated him like a prisoner/convict so the superheros would have someone to chase. I'll call him a Jail Bird.
Here is a video of the 3rd flight. I'm still making trim changes to him but in the video you can here I give him full power to launch then pull back power and he flies fine at part throttle - indoors. The last part of the video is zoomed in on him which is nice.
Flying outside would probably require me to push the throttle up higher.

jailbird (3 min 9 sec)

I'm running a Turnigy Park 250 2200 kv motor on 2 cells with a GWS 5x4.3 prop. About 41 watts.
It has plenty of power. I was worried it wouldn't be enough but gladly I worried for no reason.

Is your motor and prop already mounted? If so, hold him straight up and give it full power. If it feels like it wants to fly out of your hand or is even neutral like it would hover, then it has enough power to fly.

I find that he is pretty easy to fly/control just takes a bit of concentration to fly as it isn't shaped like an airplane. Flying in close is fine but once he is flying further away, it is harder to orientate. My observations, yours may be different.

Do you have any way to measure the thrust output of the motor, prop, battery combo you have? If you have as much thrust as he weighs, he will fly. If you have more thrust than he weighs, he will have some vertical performance :-).
My jail bird weighs 5.4 ounces (AUW) and has 7 ounces thrust. Flies fine at part throttle.
250 grams is equal to 8.8 ounces. If your combo produces 8.8 ounces or more thrust, you will be fine.

I think you'll be ok. Just get the CG and control throws right.

Baconboy will be added to the list. Is you friend's flying yet. If so, need his name to add him to the list. An RC Breakfast Club...... with a Flyguy flashmob, cool.

I used some acrilyic paint in tubes widely available. Although it costs 7 for 12 tubes of 12g from tesco, I found that Home bargains sell 12 x 18g for .99 or a large tube about 100ml for 2. It does a good job and i just used a sponge to apply. ( Cut one of the new dish washing sponges up. made feathering ing the face a bit easier.

Would probably like to build the 61 inch next. looking at the figures on the video I could use the same power plant as it gives 200watt and 385 watts. Is that total or per pound???
