The 3 position gyro switch is nice, as I have 3 different gyro settings programmed in. This allows for easy testing while in flight on my heli without having to land and go into the programming menu.

I bought my DX7s without the receiver from my LHS for a very fair price.

but will only have 2 flight modes which is much less useful over all at lest if you run a gov

i tend to only ever need 2 gain settings MAYBE 3 but you can set the gain for TH independent of the flight modes any way but they all end up with in a few % of each other way

imo the 7s is step BACK from the old DX7

The Smart Charge global charging system is designed to take the hassles out of charging your transmitter whether you have the standard 2,000mAh NiMH 4-cell battery pack in the transmitter or the optional two-cell 4,000mAh LiPo battery pack in the transmitter.
Does that mean you can leave the radio charging overnight without burning out the Nimhs (which seems to be an issue with the DX8)?

No, you should plug the included 12-volt AC to DC power supply in for 10 to 12 hours to fully charge the battery initialy. Then of course the charging time to re-charge will be shorter. Not sure why many recommend charging over night including Andy when the manufacturer themselves include this warning to owners about charging there batteries.

How you supposed to do that charging overnight while sleeping?

Initial charge 10-12hrs, charging after that depends on how much needs to be put back.

That sounds like the exact opposite of "takes the hassles out of charging," I'm not sure what hassles this was supposed to alleviate.

I was really thinking of getting a DX7 or DX8, but this has got me thinking that maybe I'll just get a JR 9503, assuming it doesn't have these issues. I know at some point I'd accidently leave the radio on the charger overnight.

Personally, I have always suspected that the "global charging system" was really designed with LIPOs in mind. At least Andy seems to be "toning down" his advice regarding overnight charging and only recommending overnight charging when the battery is mostly depleted. Still, the "global charging system" is just a hassle (and susceptible to damaging the pack) if you are using the NiMH battery.

As for the DX7s, I really don't know why anyone would purchase it instead of the DX8 - especially considering the current deal with the two extra receivers.
