Yes, the Simprop GigaScan line. There is even a telemetry version...

This looks good but I've never seen it marketed anywhere other than ebay. For 59 Euros, this is an much as a pukka Futaba one albeit without the features Simprop offers.

FASST will be dropped soon, that's why Futaba is not worried about Frsky.

I've heard about the new system FASSTEST but I have no reason to believe it won't be backwardly compatible to FASST. Anyway, I also have no reason to dump my 9C+TM-8 for a while. Unlike most of the offerings on the market my current TX was built to last, 7 years and counting, no servicing required and no recalls.

I will stay with the 9C Supers and use genuine Futaba in all my top planes. But thanks for the suggestions.

For public displays I also use genuine Futaba receivers but my experiences so far with the FRSky product may lead me to re-evaluate this policy.

Kim, I can afford Futaba radios and Futaba receivers. But I think the FRSky TFR6 is better made and it is smaller and less expensive. What you have to understand is that these products are 99% profit margin. Selling price has nothing to do with quality.

1) I doubt that profit margin you suggest
2) A lot of R&D $$ have to come out of that profit margin.

But let's say it was 80% margin above MFG cost. People forget the amount of R$D that goes into creating something like FASST or DSM2/DSMX or the other systems. You have to recover those costs somewhere or there is no reason to make it. That is why we have laws to protect intelectual property.

Now Orange and the others claim that they are not clones but compatibles. If that is the case, that should be OK. They have also spent R&D $ to create these compatibles. The question is always, how well do the compatibles work?

IBM created the IBM PC and the world created IBM PC compatibles. Now IBM is out of the PC business and there are no more IBM PCs. And so it goes in the world of technology.

You guys say the Orange FASST receivers are just relabeled FrSky receivers. So I have been readign up on FrSky. They have their own module based system and the reports have been extremely good. Whether it is high end glider pilots, giant scale or other pilots, the reports are almost universally good.

I am begining to think I should have gotten the FrSky system instead. The Frsky Futaba Module AND an 8 channel receiver is only $40 so I may get it anyway. The guys who have it are ravaing and they are using it to fly big ticket planes, jets, gliders, and helis with no issues at all.

The guy from RC Model Reviews is using it in his planes and he seems to like it to. And he did his usual RF spectrum tests and the results were rock solid.

Variometer needs telemetry hub also, not direct connection to telemetry receiver.

I use the Orange Rx'es with my slope planes at what we believe is the worst flying site in the world for interference.

They are faultless. They range check a little shorter than a 617 but still over 30m.

Another news that I am sure will delight you: Frsky will release his two way system over Futaba Fasst protocol. What implies this:
- a display combined with transmitter unit at Tx side. The Tx will send FASST and able to control any FASST receiver, Futaba genuine, Frsky or other compatible.
- a new two way FASST compatible receiver, fitted with Frsky specific telemetry ports.
- the actual Frsky telemetry hub, connected to the new receiver.
- the actual and future Frsky sensors line.

Given the fact that FASST it's expected to be retired by Futaba, and it's not included in Futaba plans to support telemetry, this system will give a new life of the whole mass of FASST systems in use in this moment, at a cost similar with a single genuine receiver.

Need Help with Orange Rx

My Orange FASST works ok with my 7C 2.4 and it worked with my original 8FG transmitter but after I upgraded my 8FG to 14-channels it has a glitch on the throttle channel. I think it’s to do with the failsafe. It’s hardly noticeable on an airplane but it causes my Quad Chopper to almost crash.

Is there a Rx firmware upgrade that will solve that problem?
