Funbuild 5 DC-6B (C-118) Pats Custom kit
Here is my entry:
The decals are available on page 52 of "Post Your Own Scale Decals" http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...359029&page=52 Build Thread: http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64969 A few Photos: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I need to get an updated video that is better. These are from some early flights that both included in-flight emergencies so the first landing is pretty awful.

New video. It is amazing how you can built a hat cam with duct tape at the field.

Flyin in a breeze
I was out today testing the flight characteristics in the wind. Had gusts up to about 10 mph. Got a little wild at certain points but I am amazed how well a parkflyer DC-6 does in such conditions. The plane is only about 28 ounces AU.

There was one time when I got farther away in the video that I got hit with some kind of wind shear or swirling thing (at about 1:23). You can see the plane trying to quite flying but I really poured on the power and pulled the plane through the turbulence. The depth perception of the camera is deceiving because I don't think I was really close to the bank of tress. However, on that end of the runway we do have to watch for them. The other problem is I don't have anyone to film so I was wearing the camera on a hat and it doesn't always pick up the plane. Dave Dave |

Yep, you can get away with a lot on Pat's designs. Actually with just about any design that has wing loading in the 5-8oz.sqft range
The stall speed is so slow that you are rarely in danger of a stall, so horsing the plane around is not as 'dangerous' as with something like a .90 size warbird.

I work near a club airfield so I go at lunch time every chance I get. If the weather is even close to flyable I go. I live 90 miles from the Pacific ocean so our weather is difficult to predict and always changing. The last week or so the runway has been partially under water. Years ago when I was a full scale pilot our #1 concern was the weather and how to get back down when the weather changed and there were no openings in the cloud layer (VFR). |
