New Product
GoPro Hero 2 Non-Fisheye Lens

So, after replacing the lens on my hero hd, I really wanted to find a new lens that was much better quality than the previous offerings for the hero hd, that would fit the Hero2. We all know that the current offerings do not fit the hero hd. But there is no such lens, yet

I am having made a non fisheye lens for the Hero2 camera. It will be wide angle, with a similar fov of the sunnex for the hero hd. A little heavier because I am using all glass for the design, and just slightly larger. Computer testing is going great so far, the first prototypes are on their way to me for real world testing. It is an ultra fast, fixed aperture, and the glass resolves to just under 15mp.

Any suggestions for features are welcome. I will keep you all updated with testing as soon as I can and I will post both still and video test footage when appropriate.

Post if you are interested, shipping will go in the order of posting

I am interested depending on mounting, will it fit in the OEM case, does it require any modding of the plastic housing of the camera?

It is almost the same size as the sunnex for the hero hd, so it will not fit into the waterproof housing without removing the housing lens, or modifying the housing to extend the lens. There is no modification required to the actual case of the camera itself.

Multicoating is already included to reduce CA, ghosting, and flares. It has been optimized for the small digital sensor of the gopro2.

How about a proper hood or sunshade for a bit of added protection?

I've made a few sunshades/hoods, it reduces a fair amount of sun flare.

Is this lens from Rage Cams different than what you are interested in? They appear to have a couple of focal lengths available...

Yeah, completely different. I've had some of theirs for the HeroHD and wasn't happy with the image quality I got out of them...

This one looks like it should be pretty great!

It will not fit into the stock housing, but the housing can be extended to allow for water tightness. You just can't get great optics in a small enough package to be able to fit into the stock housing and remove the fisheye effect.

You can take clear underwater photos and video, but the front port needs to be flat so that the focus is correct no matter what lens you use.

Yeah, I've got your 6mm, which doesn't fit the hero2, and I wasn't that impressed with the quality out of it on the hero1. I'd try your 4mm if you want me to test it back to back with mine. By the way, why does the photo of the new 4mm lens for the hero2 say 2.8mm on the lens barrel on your site?

Anyway, I worked with my lens designer some more, and we developed one that will fit into the original housing just fine. I'll keep you all posted.
