2 things.....

1) He entered the hover at an angle, allowing for the start of the spin

2) there is still a small amount of drag in the bearings... and the the air leaving the nozzle isn't perfectly straight. (it's spinning)

But as above... the vector thrust is why they can do most of it.

Regardless... it's a cool vid. I think my next jet is going to be vector thrust.

Thanks Dr. Honda & Turbonut,

I understand how vectored thrust would let you do some of the maneuvers but vectored thrust wouldn't allow for torque rolling unless there were two nozzles.

it will if you move it as the plane rotates as it can move in any direction around 2 axis

I dont think the torque roll is from the mass of the engines rotor or the bearing drag as the plane is spinning the same direction most turbines spin.

Geoff so the mystery continues...

Turbonut would you care to elaborate on your answer on how it vectored thrust could be used to spin the jet...

I'll have to go back and watch the video... but I don't recall him spinning to the right. It's always to the left... so it's probably from the spinning exhaust. As long as he has some angle (not perfectly up and down) he can control the spin with thrust angle... but as soon as he is perfectly vertical... the exhaust will spin the jet.

Are any of these pilots on here or RCU? We could just ask them.

1. vectored thrust
2. Gyro's on yaw and pitch
3. the "torque roll" is caused by the rotating exhaust plume out of the tailpipe
