Blu-Baby 33 Classic (Monoblockless) Kit, Plans, and Build Guide

Thought to start a thread in foamies scratchbuilt for this one. Even though it may be purchased as a kit, I want to make the plans available for those inclined to scratchbuild without a monoblock.

You want to print the plans or have them visible to you so that you can identify the various parts. A build guide will follow and is in process.

Build Guide Pt. 1

Build Guide Pt. 2

Build Guide Pt. 3

Build Guide Pt. 4

Build Guide Pt. 5

Here is a list of components needed for this model;

Motor - HXT 2730 1700 Kv Blue Wonder or the Turnigy, Strong RC Motors, or Lazertoyz equivalent. I used an E-Flite Park 280 (1800 Kv) for this one.

ESC - HK 10A Fixed Wing or any 10-12A equivalent.

Servos - HK15178 10g or any 9g equivalent. 2 pieces

Propeller - GWS 8x4.3 or equivalent

Wheels - Dubro Parkflyer 1.86

Pushrods - Dubro 20" micro pushrod set (.032" music wire)

Main Gear - .078" music wire

If you are interested in a kit, I have them available at this time.

Kits are cut from a new product called Model Plane Foam. It is a premium extruded polystyrene foam like FFF, but without the waves, perforations, or printing, and is white in color, making it very nice to put any color on.

Kits include CNC cut foam parts with airfoil baked into the wing panels, plywood firewall and control horns. These kits is now available through my website at www.kenscadmodels.com

Thanks, I'll try this one next. How much weight reduction did you see with stepping away from a monoblock?

Overall weight remained about the same, but structural integrity jumped up to a much more robust fuselage without adding any weight. I have not weighed the Classic yet, but the Trike with the added weight of a steerable nose gear was only 7.9 oz RTF. A moderately light BB33UC comes in at 8 oz. How skillful you are with glue makes a big difference as well.

Very nice work on those plans Ken. Thank you from me, and for everyone that visits this thread for the next 100 years. I would tell people that if they want a quick, easy build, buy your kit! Save a ton of time and it would build so fast and turn out really nice! Computer cut kits are very cool! Priced right too!

I have started gathering build documentation for this Tony65x55 approved kit production. Tony gets a royalty on each kit sold.

Build Guide Pt. 1

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. This should help. This is about 2 hours of work.

More pictures will be added to the above post until the build guide is complete.

Oh, thanks for the kind words Fred. I am richly blessed, and want to share with others.

I know it looks like alot of tape , and it is. However it is the cheapest easiest way I have at the moment to hold things tight without crushing the foam and to control any foaming. I just count as part of the cost of making great looking foamies. I suspect most would look at my use of tape as a waste, but one roll does about 4 models, which breaks down to about $1.10 per model. That may sound high, it does not even come close to what specialized clamps and other tools cost. Worth the expense to me (cheap tooling).

Yep, tape is cheap. I just need to remember not to use it on painted foam...
Weighting works ok, but then we have the problem with glue squirting out the joint.
I was just teasing about the tape. Struck me as funny when I looked at it.

Hey I just bought a thousand shares of stock in the 3M Company, blue painters tape division. I'm going to be rich! Thanks Ken!

Sorry Patric made me do it. Trying to cheer myself up. Carry on.

Wow, Ken, that is an incredibly detailed post. That is so very much apreciated. I just finished my first Blu Baby (33") and she's flying nicely. Yours will definitely be next as I've mentioned above. I'm not sure if you will include it in your post. But could you also provide specifics as far as what kind of motor it'll have, rotor size/type, ecs., etc.

-BK

P.S. It would probably be better to have all those pictures and step in first thread to make it easier to find all of them. I don't mind looking through pages, but it would definitely make it easier. Not sure if it's a good tip, just a thought.

Ken have you seen this Fuselage jig before http://www.nwrcc.com/viewpage.php?page_id=20 .

With the amount of planes you put together it may save you a bit on tape .
