DX6i Backlight Custom Mod

I modded my DX6i with the turingy 9x backlight mod today
i added a twist though using a micro toggle switch on the back to save battery
while using the radio with my flight sim's as it eats battery life when not needed

heres some pics of the mod ,once i started, i kept forgetting to take pics through all the stages

i ordered a second white kit as i bypassed my resistor when i modded it, i did'nt see it on the plug board when i removed it and my light is way to dim to see in any light ..be great for night flights lol

replaced with white board looks awesome
i used my second hk wiring that came with the backlight without modding it i used the first removed red wires to rearange the red and black needed joined onto my switch lead and it plugs into the new wire harness so replacement is easy now

i used the bandsaw to cut off the excess length of the display removing the silver tape from the edges and replaced it after it was cut shorter so it reflects all the way around it like the original one i used tape around the edges to join the back light to the display so they stay together
once it was installed i used the tip of a screwdriver between the boards to center it in the front window moving it slowly untill centred

Ran the second tank through the .46AX today

installed all missing parts to complete the solo sport

Undid the stab section replaced elevator hinges with pinned hinges
Reattached it all much more solid than the person who tried to assemlbe it from new

Did another recheck of the throws and limits of the servos

Need to pick up wing elastics, As I forgot to buy some at the hobby shop today
one just wont do!

Lost The Hangar 9 Solo Sport Trainer in some trees across the road
looked for hours and cant find it
, the elastic broke and the wing xame off the fuse droped like a bomb and the wing fluttered down
3 of us looked and looked with no results

Update....Found the plane and recovered the parts everything works fine
never found the wing yet tho

Planning to use the parts for my skybaby build coming up soon

Today i tested out my brushless .50 glow equiv motor
using a 10x6 master airscrew i clamped it to a chair back with a clamp and at half throttle
it pulled the chair over, i almost missed catching it lol

and thats with a turingy 11.1v 3s 5000mah 20c-30c burst pack
i think it will provide the thrust i need to get my 60" off the ground

woot

70mm EDF Project

- 5mm Dollarama Foam

- 16mm Lowes (DOW) Blue Foam

- A flat carbon fiber spar vertical across the wingspan just in front of the edf unit

- For the Glue i choose Lepage PL Premium Ultra (100% Polyurethane)
the adhisive works like spray foam and turns into white foam itself and goes on like a jelly or clear paste you have about 10 minutes to work with it before it starts to really turn into foam

I built this around the edf unit itself

there wernt any plans i could research online involving an edf unit that i liked
as i wanted a slower flyer than a jet
I was considering on a BiPlane EDF maybe next lol

Because of weight limits i chose not to cover the cockpit area for now,
but figured i would surround the battery to prevent slides

the rear i reduced a half inch to give a little more thrust and went with the diamond pattern as a test

Bought a mcx last week, kinda neat , not much good outdoors

I actually flew it outside today (Aug 26th 2012)
the breeze moved it slowly off track a bit but was mild
goes quite high too!

added more pics from the original ad I purchased it from
and two new ones,As now in the box

-----------------------------------------

Traded for a paintball setup
...Don't really have a use for it, But it's worth more than the
$70 I had into the MCX..I think!
