Power Set or a Dutkoski/EMA Mig-17
I have just recently bought a Dutkoski Mig - 17.
I'm also about to order Kontronik's for my Areonaut Rafale - Tomrrow. So my question is : What is the best power set-up foe the Mig - 17. Mini Fan / Mega 16-15-2 or 3 turn (Pahranah Set-Up) TP 2100 3s3p's 609 Mega 22-20-2 / ESC combo I already have, just need a fan Mini Fan / Kontronik Fun 400-36 Beat 40-6-12, TP 2100's 3s3p's |

Kevin,
I'm building one of John's T-45 Goshawks. I'm going with the 609 fan and a Mega 22/20/3. Several E-Zoners convinced me that the Mini Fan wasn't enough for the Hawk. The Mig will probably need even more power/thrust because of it's higher wing loading. With what you have available, I'd go with the 609 and the Mega 22/20/2. If you're going with LiPo's, just watch the amp draw isn't too much. Rob |

I was ordering the Kontronik's for my Rafale last night so I went ahead and ordered the Kontronik 400-36 / Beat 40-6-12 for the MIG.
Chris - I have read the EZone review on the Mig. When it first came out and again this year after finding the Mig at NEAT. I decided on the Mini Fan instead of the 609 to keep it light. I think I saw it on The Zone that the MF 480 is more efficent at and under 400 watts. I'll probably make new smaller fiberglass ducts sized for the Mini fan. I have three TP 2100 3s packs and they should do well at 40 watts. I think this is the motor/esc/fan that you use in your Parahna. ??? |

No need to make new ducts, just slit the existing duct about 6" lengthwise, stick the MF in with some protective plastic wrap and overlap the ducting until it fits. Secure with Ca, remove fan and maybe run one reinforcing strip along the joint. |

I fly mine with a 609 and a B50-12S on 12-1950 FAUP cells. If you had chosen the 609, I don't think you could get the LiPo's in there. I think it will be fine with the 400/36. I wouldn't put the cheater hole in it either. I don't use it with the 609 so you shouldn't need it with the MF480. Be sure to check the CG, if it's a little tail heavy it will snap roll if you get it too slow. Jim Phelps |
