I bet we get some flyable weather today, here and there. If it ends up rainy, but not thunderstormy at times, I have the little HK Icon A5 to fly on the wet grass from under the shelter......

Radar currently shows a large hole in the line of Tstorms marching our way that looks like it will help us out today.

It turned out to be an excellent day for flying. No rain, sunny skies, and a light breeze. =)

Yep, great flying weather all day until now...a line of Tstorms threatened around 3pm so we battened down the tents and put away our models. Looks like will will luck out and the majority of it will pass north and south of the field.

Rub it in, just rub it in!

Got the toolbox and bed loaded with planes.
Still have to finish loading up all my radio gear, chargers, stuff....

My garage looks a little bare

Hope to be down around 11:25ish

Any You happen to know anyone that would be interested in a Sonic 500 q500 style pylon plane with a .25 on it?

Just had a member of my club drop by the house wanting to part with it.

As far as i can tell all it needs is Rx and balancing to be RTF.

i'm debating on getting it ready to go for saturday if i can't get any interest.

Day 3 was awesome! Calmer winds overall and more attendees meant a crowded sky over SMALL. Saw some great free flights with thermal action. 1/2As, EDFs, foamies, little copters, multi-engines(and multi-motors) were flown. Some crazy rocket flights that had to be witnessed to appreciate. The grand finale was Keith Sparks' Estes Phoenix modded with 2 stages with 4 C-class engines per stage. It ended up being a team effort with lots of folks chipping in to make sure the flight had a chance of success. The rocket launched and flew well for an excited crowd.

The FARM Club ran the event this year and lots of it's members participated. The usual SMALL characters also helped make sure everyone had fun. A special thanks to Steve Staples, Dale Womack, and Bobby Moran. They all made us feel welcome and our trip more enjoyable.

My son and I were lucky enough to win 4 of the raffle prizes over the weekend. I was also thrilled to receive the Best Glow Powered Aircraft award.

I have never laughed more or had more fun flying models as I did this weekend. The time spent visiting with like minded friends was even better.

Back home and I've got a lot to do to around the
house to make up for my playtime this weekend.

Thanks to the Farm Folks for providing such a nice
lunch and relaxed flying environment.

What a great time seeing everybody again.

Was a Classic SMALL.

What's a flight line? - Classic
Sparky's Rocket Did end up in the Prison yard - Classic
Stone1295 ( Mike ) came and won a trophy his first trip - Classic
Rockets don't need to say "Excuse Me, Man" - Classic
Crashed my plane on the last flight of the last day - Classic
Did it get very Hot & Steamy after the Cloudburst - Classic

Thanks everybody
Larry

I had a great time too!

I was advised before I came that if I could only attend one event a year that this was the one to attend.

Good to meet you Larry. Next year I'll have to plan a bit better and make more room for all of the stuff I wanted to purchase.

The award was totally unexpected and I appreciate it very much!

Many folks asked me about my experiences and impressions of SMALL so here are a few things I learned:

1. If there's a bunch of people hunched over something on the ground or workbench and some of them are shaking their heads; that's the place you want to be! There's something going on that might be dangerous or at the very least ill advised and there is certainly a guarantee that there will be stories to tell next year.

2. Nobody minds you sitting down in their tent or you dropping in on their conversations. There's lots of stories to be heard and knowledge to be picked up. Everyone was approachable at this event!

3. The locals at the Farm Club are some of the friendliest and most accommodating around! Hats off to those folks for putting on an excellent event and making me feel welcome. I arrived 2 days early just to figure out where the field was, etc. and met folks like Karl, Johnny, Jack,Dale, Chris, Jerry, Marshall, Cody, Bobby, and a few others whose names escape me at the moment (sorry guys).

4. Next year I'll bring a sun hat and apply the sunscreen a bit more liberally and more often.

I'm heading out to the field again today to see what else is going on. The event officially ends today at noon so that will allow some of the locals to bring out their larger stuff after hours and get some flight time in.

Thanks everyone! I'll see you all next year.

-Mike

I'd call yesterday a complete success. I only had one plane go down but it is repairable.

The wind was quite favorable in my opinion. Yes there was rain, but that cooled thing back down to a comfortable level. It shut down my winch but not cause it was damaged because the line strength is lower when wet.

Small 2012

Here's a photo I like.

It shows (among other things):

Tom walking back from getting his B-17 ready to launch.
A lot of Tom and Richard's planes sitting out around their tent
Sparky's cartoon planes ready to go.
A couple of Fun Cubs sitting out in front of the club house.
Pat's planes sitting out in the Arkansas sun.
...and me wearing a black shirt standing on the flight line. I don't remember who I was talking to during this flight but if anyone remembers, post it up and take credit.
