Model Builder 1- 1986

From Model Builder 1- 1986.
I knew about the Sunbird but not the Golden Eagle which I have built and flown. Flies rather nicely as have all Tom Williams designs.
Going to have to get a set of the plans to see how they compare to the kit version.

This is what I started with... J & J Industries American Eagle

I got this when I was about 16 yrs old (almost 40 years ago). I am now kicking myself for selling it for $25. I figured I'd never have any interest in it again.

I have a full set of plans somewhere. Just don't have enough time to build these days.....

Someday I'll buy a bunch of wood and build it. It is a simple build. Sweet flying plane. I'd probably modify it making it a "Modified Standard Class" by giving it spoilers.

I was in Germany last week and took time to visit the German Sailplane and Model Museum at the Wasserkuppe. I was there gathering scale data for a new project and saw that Dr Quabecks Dohle 2nd place 83 WC F3B finisher in York England was now on display. As I walked nearer the model my signature jumped out at me from several meters away. I recall being there but did not remember signing the model. I looked the model over and saw the signatures from Keith Finkenbiner, Steve Neu,Collin Di Maio, Don Edberg, and Mark Smith. From Holland was a signature from an A Borst whom I met for the first time in York and am lucky enogh to call friend to this day. It is nice to see that Mark's signature is on a model on display in a worthy place of honor. Here are some photos LJ

Bob Steele and Ads

I rearrange the copy from the LOFT news letter for Bob Steele, I miss him and the guidiance he gave me. I'll get the whole newsletter in pdf soon.
A couple of ads and a funny cartoon I saw recently that describes more than a few people I know.

Hi All,

This has been a blast from the past! He's some scanned pics of me and some of my gliders from the 70's

Graupner Cirrus, Dumas Hi-Pro x2, Grand Esprit. I also built a Soarcraft Magnum 12 and a Dodgson Maestro. Used to fly at contests with Bob Dodgson in the Pacific Northwest back then.

I still have kits for the Graupner Cirrus, Dumas Hi-Pro and Grand Esprit....

Cheers, Nigel Tarvin

I miss Model Builder. I also miss Herk Stokely's column in Flying Models. Nothing like either one today. Model magazines today have been slicked up and dumbed down so much that they are picture magazines with little technical content. How much can you learn from nothing but a picture?
