This and more to follow from the Dr. Larry Fogel collection.

Thank You Gary for sharing your fathers treasure chest.

Who can tell us what about some of the models shown here?

The notion of differentiating classes by span vs. area was done for the simple reason that a measuring tape for span was easily done while calculating the area of a model would require contest management to potentially do a lot of math, depending on the planform.

It was expediency that won out.

That's interesting, and it answers the question I asked last January in my post just before your post #6. However, it's still a mystery why your post answering my question is still there but my post was deleted.

Classification by function

In the early days of R/C soaring there was an attempt to set up competition classes by the number of controlled functions. When releasable tow hooks came on the scene, many modelers drove the releasable hook with a blip of down from the elevator servo. This led to arguments about whether a sailplane so equipped should be classed as a 2 or 3 function sailplane.

Glad to see the scanned images on this thread! Good work. More to follow with time from the Fogel files.

This and That

One found in a magazine, maybe it was a bookmark and some cool stuff from the Fogel Files. Move over X Files.

Joe, in the pic of me launching my BOT are more LOFT flying buddies, Jack Smith is about to launch with Ray Holzheuer timing.

I hope we can do some timing for each other at the Nats Nos/RES.

This Sat is the one day Grand Rapids Woody contest.

My bad, there are three Ray's that are OFB's in Dan's article! You, Mr. Holzheuer and the winner, Mr DeNoble. I just about have Mr. Holzheuer's Magic refinished.
I hope we can too, I need a break from work which is why I can't make the Woody contest in Grand Rapids. The only good thing is I don't have to decide on the Legion Air 140 or the Aquila XL.
I am pushing 60 hours a week not counting travel time . . . . .

Give it a rest, Joe

I'm thinking I'm going to quit flying NOS until the rules change and we can fly F3B Eagles!

Won't that make NOS special ... Windfree against 1st generation moldie!

LOL!

TK,
Until they said we had to work Saturday I could not decide if it would be the Legion Air or the XL in the Woody contest in Grand Rapids.
