joselu, you can go with any 42xx motor 500 - 800kv and it will be a good match for the plane.

Usually you can find the motor from PW-RC, RC Castle, Hobby Paradise etc. Should be about $35 or so. My stock motor is holding up perfectly on both planes so far!

maddened today. Plane does fly very nice and predictable. I had 65 DR and 30 Expo all around. Will probably be uping it to 70% DR. Overall very pleased. One thing, the entire tail wheel feel off. I still have the part that screws to the fuselage but the black part where the wires hooks into and the wheel is gone. I still have the wires amazingly as that sounds. Where can i find a replacement?

ryan in all seriousness i logged on to ask about the reliability of the tail wheel on this plane. wow lol

well, if it were me i'd upgrade to a dubro or whatever's good out there for this particular size.

has anyone else encountered this issue?

OK peoples. The SBach has at last come round on my weekend queue. My motor had bit it and spat its magnets out... when I reglued them back it made an unpleasant noise when the plane was in the sky, so I brought it down and condemned it.

The replacement I chose is a very heavy motor. It is a 700kv Turnigy L5055C. It adds almost 100g onto the weight of the plane .

I chose this because someone early on this thread said the stock motor was an 800kv unknown. Now it seems like it's a 500kv FMS motor. I don't know why I didn't check myself because I have a tachometer. That's what you get for being impatient!

The prop of choice is a 15x8. Again... bought assuming the earlier motor was an 800kv and not a 500kv. The logic was "kv down... pitch up? a bit?". Battery is still the 3300 and 3000 mah 4S, with discharge ratings of 25-50C.

Static tests: peak values, 950W, 70A at 13.32V. The voltage sags after that but I couldn't get a reading because things were flying everywhere in my room. The motor is rated for much more (1600W) so I guess I could always go to 5S with this setup.

I'm expecting the plane to be crap at slow 3D style aerobatics now. For one, it's going to be nose heavy so I'll have to do something about that. For another, I'm thinking a 16x6 or x5 might be a good match now, since I'm apparently not taxing the motor much. But we will see how this setup performs next weekend.

RE: the tail wheel. Mine is stock. I've landed the plane roughly, and crashed it once. It's still the stock wheel. It didn't even fall off in the crash.

I genuinely have no idea why mine is still attached, let alone in the decent-ish condition it seems to be in. So I attach a picture. Maybe it will help.

Joselu, your motor selection: the discussion thread for the motor you linked is interesting. I think you are just going to have to try it out for this one. Iceaxe has already told us what worked for him so the best we can do without following his choice is to pick another one and try it out ourselves. Good luck.

kinda makes you feel like a mad scientist dont it?

about your tail wheel, i guess you've been lucky so far. i really cant comment about this model because i've never seen it in person. i will not put up with the magnets coming off, the esc will be replaced, servos and tail wheel...reliability is a MUST in my world.

i have a hobbywing platinum 100a laying around. can i use that?

Flew again today. Stock motor has alot of power with a 4s 3300 Nano-Tech. Pulls easily 65amps consistantly with the stock prop. It has plenty of "oh crap" power where you floor the throttle and pull out a landing approach. YOu really only need 10 feet of runway to be in the air.

I am going to change all servo's. The stock servos have a tendency to not center. So i'm now in the game of what servo's to buy. I am lookin to replace all of them.

I think 15x8 + 4S = 400W is quite underpowered. With the stock motor on a 14x7 with 4S I was pulling ~900W. According to the specs on the motor you linked, on 4S, if that motor is pulling anywhere near max amps it should deliver close to 900W... No idea what is going on there.

The motor also looks to be 2mm too short. Your spinner may be rubbing against the cowling. You'll have to shim it. You will also have to buy the mounting accessories and get a new spinner because the stock spinner is specially made for this SBach.

It was more that I didn't want to have to pick everything up afterwards!

I think the 100A is a bit overkill for the stock setup. I use a Turnigy plush 80A with a separate BEC soldered on.

Elevator/rudder servos look beefy. Let us know if the speed is up to what you like!

I'm to the point where i don't want to cheap out and buy from these knock off companies. Looking to spend 20-30 per servo. I've learnt the lesson to many times (not just in RC). Spend the extra money for quality goods and you will be rewarded with a good product/long lifetime. What would you put in the sbach?
