![]() It was a test n tune run though and seemed to be about the only way I was going to get one in with it. It was a busy day at Ackerman yesterday but the weather was really great for it. Good to have you back in here scorp. Hoping to see more of you as time goes along. We won't even razz you for not building a boat.

Page 1 post 14. I believe you'd have to send him an email to get one these days though. He's no longer selling them on ebay.

That thought has crossed my mind Ron and may do that as my repair will never look as good as a new hatch. ("if" they are available).
In the meanwhile, repairs are progressing. I added a couple of layers of 5 oz. weave to the inside of the bubble a couple of nights ago. After letting it cure 24 hours, brushed on a light layer of resin over the outside (where the gelcoat shattered) last night. It doesn't look good but it's already back to being waterproof. Next I'll have to try to do some fill and sand. Edit: Photos of progress so far. 2 layers of 5 oz coarse weave and another of 2 oz fine weave cloth added to the inside bubblle area. and the worst of the gelcoat cracking feathered in. It won't look good as new but it's still very useable for a hatch. There was actually no damage to the carbon kevlar cloth. It was just a case of flexing enough to shatter the gelcoat.

I'd bet that those are the pure glass hulls at that price, but there's nothing wrong with those either. Same hull, just a little heavier and I'd almost bet one of those wouldn't have caved the hatch gelcoat like mine did. (Or maybe it would have shattered it worse?)

![]() It was really more of a roll over than a flip. I was having an outstanding run until it happened on the 6th lap. Came around marker 6 in a little bit of a power slide and was heading it towards the slalom marker when it caught some chop and went airborne. The sideways inertia (I guess) caused it to roll upside down in the air and it hit the water hatch first. Around a 50 mph impact with 17 lbs of mass pushing it. When I took the boat out to get it I planned to just roll it over and have Chris drive it back to shore. After seeing the hatch and feeling how heavy it was changed my mind. After getting back to the table and removing the hatch, the water level inside was up to the top of the lower (rear) part of the rails. |
