Need help on buying new Battery!

Hey Everybody!

I'm getting rather sick of having one battery pack for my Megatech Merlin (7min flight times) and was thinking about getting maybe a couple more. Of course I could always get a new one from Megatech, but I'd like to see if its possible to get a better performance batt. The current battery only says that it is 8.4V on the lable, and has seven cells. I know I'll have to get a different charger but I was wondering what...if any...batterys can be used with megatech products. I'm not even sure the connectors and cells are standard size or not or even if the ESC can handle different batts (this is my first plane!). Well let me know if you need any more info to answer my question...I'll do my best.

Thanks again guys...I love this website!!!
-Brett (a newly aquired R/C addict)

PS...any flyers in the Wisconsin-Iowa-Illinois Tri-State area??

I don't know what kind of cells you have, but if you get NiMH instead of Nicad.. you could double your flight times for around the same weight!

Check this site for battery sizes. You can go with an equivalent size NiMH and one more in cell count.

This is what I can gather from their website.

Wingspan:
44 Inches (1117mm)

Wing Area:
465 Square Inches

Length:
30 Inches (762mm)

Weight: 15 oz. (420g)
Propeller: 12 x 8 (304 x 203mm)
Gear Ratio:
5.6:1

Functions:
Rudder, Elevator & Variable speed throttle

Part Number:
MTC9910

Definately a slow flyer. Cells are probably no bigger than 300ma. I believe GWS sells small ma packs for slowflyers. Also check out http://www.hobby-lobby.com/nicads.htm

They have a pretty good selection. I would also post your question in the slowflyers forum. Do a search there as well.

Yeah tripster, everthing sounds right.

From Dr. Jet's website I found out that the batterys are 600mAh. Now the only question is if the connectors will work??????

It doesn't look like the connectors will work with my plane. It sounds like megatech uses a special electical system to make sure no aftermarket stuff can be added. Nothing looks compatable, even the charger won't do other batteries. I might just order some from Megatech. I think a new plane might come in the near future anyhow!

-Thanks for the great help! I'll see what the slowflyer forum has to say.
