Repair update

Here is an update on the repair. As suggested by Dr. Drela I installed two carbon laminates, 15 cm long each, and tested the center panel with 150 lbs concentrated at the center.

Must say it was really scary to keep adding all that weight and watching the wing flex to an extreme. So much flex that at my first try the center touched the table so I had to prop the tips up even more.

The attached video shows only unloading the wing but you have an idea of the flex.

I was also pleased with the result of vacuum bagging a new piece of skin. Other than the color that didn't match 100% the original, the end result was fairly smooth, maybe you can see it at the pictures.

Chris has not flown the plane yet after the repair so there may be more to come.

Great job!

I have a question about the CP spar before I start on my wing project-
Someone stated that you could make your own CP spar with the 5* dihedral preformed in the center, so that the .007" pieces would not be necessary to shore up the bend in the stock straight spar caps.

My question is: What material should I use for this, and what layup schedule??
I have 4.1oz Uni-carbon (80/20 carbon/glass) in stock, but am not at all opposed to buying some other material if its better in some small way (pure uni-carbon?).

Is peel-ply a good idea to rid the home-grown spar cap of excess epoxy, and give some texture for bonding??

Thanks in advance,
Target

Hey Glauco, there are only a fixed number of "flexes" in any wing and you're using them up unnecessarily on the workbench. Now Chris has two fewer pings in the quiver.
