Stevens AeroModels - eHopper

Just received my latest purchase from SA; The eHopper is a 1:10 scale reproduction of John Chotia's 1981 Weedhopper Model C (JC-24C) ultralight and has been faithfully reproduced from Chotia's original hand drawn plans. Featuring the simple snap together assembly you've come to expect from Stevens AeroModel combined with awesome scale detail and superb in-flight manners.

I was thinking by Friday..... classes started back so, it's busy at West Point. I've built 3 SA kits, have this one and still need to build the SKYBUGGY 300. I know I won't stop there and I'm sure I'll come home with a few in February "if" they are at the WRAM Show. Definitely going to build the Pietenpol Sky Scout (480).

I do have the colors to go with the black, yellow, orange and red.... however; something might hit me as the cover time nears.

We really don't need build threads for SA kits.... they just go together! Place parts from each page into large plastic bag, add a few drops of CA and shake lightly.

See just like page 8 shows.... wing ready for sanding.

Love these kits!

Build interrupted....

No rush, but after all my wiring of the motor, and Pixie7. The AR6400 "puck" binds and I have controls, but the esc does not see the rx and the motor will not engage. Pixie just has a continuous beep and no blinking light and after triple checking the wiring and solder joints, no luck. Although it's new out of the package, I probably have a bad pixie esc.

The WRAM show is in 5 days so, I'll wait to get what I need then and a few other SA kits.....

Here are a few more pictures of the build before I shelved the eHopper.

Thanks....

I'm sure I will soon enough, sometimes I can't see the simple stuff which is why I put it aside. I do know better and after having cut into the wiring my joints and color match up is correct. I should have bench tested all of it, but assumed all the NIB stuff wouldn't give me problems.

Oops my bad

I want to stay with the SA recommended "brushed power system" as the results are well tested, like all their models....

So, it's worth the wait besides, I simply can not get a break for park flying weather. If it's flyable weather, it's during work hours, if it isn't raining, the wind is 15+ mph......

Looks real sweet Man.

I should get back to finishing mine from nearly two years past. All covered sans the wing. Did Ultracote lite clear. Tried to cover the wing but just could not get it with too much warpege, as I just want the top covered.

Well get with it then.... I have to put mine back up on the shelf again. I tried an ElectriFly C-12 ESC and at least it lights up, but LED just blinks on and off and will not arm.

I have a Futaba 9C with a Spektrum DM8 module, but I couldn't get it to arm with my DX7 either.

It has got to be the servo plug "signal pin".... I have to wait a day or to until my nano and micro plug supplies arrive.

Ok not the plug....

Prepared a new nano plug from the AR6400L to the esc and it still will not arm so, it very well could be the AR6400.

All of this is new out of box items......

I tested both the Pixie 7P and ElectriFly C-12 using a new AR500 and both ESCs just blink also..... so, I guess it's not the AR6400L.

I can not find the problem, it does it with both my DX7 and the Futaba 9C with the Spektrum TM8 module.....

Not a year yet.....

Finally put the eHopper on the bench and cut into the frame for the servo option modification and very pleased with the result.
