If you can plug the connector cable in either way into the USB adapter, just want to make sure it is documented which way around it should be.
Looks like it is connected with the pin locks facing up.
Does that red light come on when you plug it into the PC, or when you plug it in to the PC and the PC has the USB correct driver?

Would be nice if its the 644, that would leave room for future development. With the new firmware, the 324 would be close to capacity. It can't be the 164, that only has 16KB of flash rom.

Here's a pic I found that looks very like the chip in my cx3x1000

I think pretty much all the information is there! For me, it would have worked better with the camera in landscape mode, and you can even use one of those mini tripods to smooth out the camera movements - but that's only nit-picking! I'd actually never noticed the blue led's flashing on the USB unit, since I normally plug mine directly into the side of my laptop, where it's not so visible, so I actually learned something from watching your video!

Connect to ZYX via PC Software & USB link

Question about doing setup and firmware upgrade to ZYX gyro. Does the gyro need to be connected to the receiver and both transmitter & receiver be ON in order to connect to ZYX via USB link ?

I tried to use USB link/laptop with ZYX only (no connection to receiver and no transmitter) and a receiver battery pack. I could not establish a connection from software (either the original ZYX software or John_NZ software). ZYX had all 3 LEDs constantly ON when power was turned on.

I did try to use the programmer box and that only worked when ZYX was connected to receiver and transmitter needed to be turned on.

When I did the firmware upgrade to my Beast X, I needed no receiver or transmitter; just USB link from laptop to Beast X with receiver battery pack.

Any comment is appreciated..

Thanks,

Ching-Ho Cheng

I was doing my testing by having the transmitter on each time as that is what I had been advised by the manufacturer via a supplier.
Since that time, for development I just use a gyro connected to a Rx and I don't bother turning on the TX and it works fine.
I haven't tried just the gyro on its own.
If you have three lights on the gyro, it sounds like you need to try with at least the Rx connected to it,

To do the firmware upgrade, you need the Tarot 2.5 software.
You need to get the tarot software to connect to the gyro and all 3 lights to come up. This way the tarot software knows what port to use.
Next you need to load the firmware file.
After that, you need to disconnect power to the gyro. Hold down the button on the side of the gyro in the small hole and power up the gyro again. Gyro should start with a flashing red light. Now press upgrade on the tarot software and it will send the firmware.
You need to do this with 10 seconds or so, otherwise the gyro times out and will boot normally.

If you can get a connection to your gyro normally, then you won't be able upgrade the firmware.
Check that your USB adapter is being recognized by the PC and to use the tarot software make sure the assigned com port for the adapter is com4

John, are we doing Tarot firmware upgrade in addition to your software?

John,

Thanks, I will try to connect a RX to the gyro and check whether I could get a connection without the TX. Otherwise, I will turn on my TX too.

That would be great. Meanwhile I tried to upgrade and the compressed file from Tarot has just txt instruction file and a 30kb zyx.bin. Firmware upgrade looks for .hex file. Somewhere in the middle of bad English instructions I saw something about using the software debugger to get the firmware upgrade file.

Any ideas?

Many thanks.

Warning Large Pictures

My second copterx gyro arrived today.
This time I took some photos. My first unit is inside the frames of my 250, and working very well, so i really don't want to take it out again.

First pic is as recieved. The other pics are after cleaning the chip with alchohol wipes and then a drop of liquid (CA remover) on top. I guess a drop of water would have the same effect.
Last picture is for reference.

I did the same cleaning and add a drop of liquid to the first one, but didn't think to take a photo before installing it (I was too excited to just fly it).

With what I could read on the first chip and now this second one, I am 99.99% sure that the chip is an ATMEL ATMEGA324PA-AU.

Big thanks to John_NZ for his awesome software, and everyone else who has contributed to make this as pain free and enjoyable for us all.

Cheers,

Dan.

P.s. After you click a picture, and after it is loaded you can click on it again to see it in full size on a new page.

Yes, I would tend to agree with you. It looks definitely like a '2' before the '4', which would eliminate 164 and 644 and 1284.

Now all we need is for someone to write us the complete ATMEGA firmware with the PID models etc for the helis and then we can control the whole lot.
