As this contest pushes the envelope of what is possible with a multi-rotor, failed attempts are likely, making it even more important than usual to be careful and responsible. GOOD LUCK! The categories for 2012 and incumbents from 2011 I. (a) Mr. Lifter - Heavy Lifter, greatest payload including battery, dead man lift style, must clear at least 6 feet for at least 10 seconds with video. 2011 Winner: Walter Lafouine's heavy lifting hexa copter, 12.1 kg!! 1.) Put your name here! 2.) Put your name here! 3.) Put your name here! I. (b) Mr. Lifter - Controlled Heavy Lifter, greatest payload including battery with a flying task. Task is 2 minutes of flying showing controlled flight. Demonstrate controlled forward and reverse flight, 360 degree turn left and right turn (pirouettes or circuits) at any point in the flight. 2011 Winner: Killy's hexa does a flip while weighted with 5.29 kg!! 1.) EndOfDays Quad lifts 5623g 2.) Put your name here! 3.) Put your name here! II. Mr. Lifter - All Out Time Duration, longest time in a single flight. Video is now required to verify duration claim, but you can speed it up. 2011 Winner: timnilson's Pro Tricopter Delrin Kit, 28:30 1.) Mr. Lifter - Most Efficient Duration , highest time in seconds divided by (Ah x number of cells) of your battery. Video not required (but is OK), but at least an in flight photo and detailed description required to verify duration claim. I was thinking about trying a really large tricopter. Just something quick to see try to determine if at some large size the control response slows down enough so that gyros aren't needed.

Yes, the competition is closing on 12/31/2012. So you have some time, but building a craft that can beat any of the records set in 2011 will take a moment, I think. And, if you are in the top 5, you can promote that fact heavily throughout the year. Depending on how many prizes we get we may also do a mid year prize distribution for the top slots.
