Question
Good 3d plane? with 24g motor and 12amp esc???

I have a few 24g motors of various KV and 12 esc's that need a good plane to go in to. What is a good 3d foamy plane for these??????
I am looking for one that is not expensive, I welcome plans for home build ones also.
I don't have experience with 3d, just jets, wings, and pylon. I like the flying of the Vector, but it is way to expensive. Please any suggestions?

I have a 24g motor with a 10 amp on a Tech One Gent. I use 350 or 500 3S. It is kind of an F3P plane but 3D is very good and it is EPP. Can't beat it for the money and it takes a beating. I think they are $34.99 from Tower.

Search foamy factory, an old thread with plans for Depron airplanes. you want something in the 7-12 oz range and a 32"-36" wing span.

There are several manufactors with foamies that would work

You could also use EPP foam

Look in the 3D foamie forum

I've only built one 3D foamy, but I love this plane. I used the plans LeadFeather posted up for a 34" 540 Edge (over in the scratchbuilt foamies section), http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1119161. He also has plans over there for a 34" Yak which seems very popular, but I think Yaks are yuk so I didn't go for that one.

I used a 1300kv 24g motor, 12 amp esc, a couple 10g servos, and a 450mah 3s batt. He recommends a 1500kv motor, but I have zero problems with the 1300 and can hover at half throttle.

EDIT: AUW with the battery was 8.07oz, although after a whole summer of flying/err crashing it's probably up to 8.5oz from the repairs.

There are many good airframes that your equipment will work in. Any of the DW foamies 34" Pro series would be a great choice. They fly great, and 3D almost by themself. The only downside, is depron is not very crash resistant, so if this is going to be your first 3D trainer, you may want to check out EPP planes as well. They don't fly nearly as good as the DW foamies (IMO), but they are very durable, and are good trainers. The twisted hobbies 32" Edge is a good starter plane and very easy to 3D.

Yeah, I looked at some of those planes and they are great, but $70 for a set of foam seems quite expensive. The one listed above for $34 is a good price, but looking for a simple model like the Leadfeather ones, but in a much more afordable price.

Looks like Hobbyking or scratchbuilt is the way to go?? For pricing any ways??
Where is a good place to get epp foam?

Go to the scratchbuilt foamies forums. All the info on glues, techniques, and materials sources are right there. There are tons of plans you can download and it's a lot of fun to do, and very economical. A very good place to start is with Leadfeather's Yak 55, or the Edge. If going 2s I use a 1700kv Blue Wonder, if 3s I use the 1300kv Blue Wonder. I'm a big fan of GensAce batts, and use the 450mah with excellent results in both 3s and 2s.

Just looking for an alternative to keep the hobby affordable.

Thanks guys. Any other suggestions?

If all the above options are not in your budget, then I think you should pick up a pack of x-acto blades and a few sheets of foam! There are some good plans out there, but you could easily make your own as well.

Twisted Hobbys sells bare airframes w/hardware and very affordable. If you decide to scratch build getting a pre cut bare airframe is a great option.

First foamy I ever made was the leadfeather yak. It wasn't hard to make; even for my first time. To this day it's one of the best flying foamies I've got.

I've got a Techone Piaget right next to it. You can make fun of Hobby King all you want but this plane flys very well, builds easy, and takes a beatin'.

Both are cheap.

Oh and www.rcfoam.com is one of many for foam.

twisted hobbies, yeah, I didn't scroll down far enough to see that they had a less expensive version, (unpainted). That's great. THanks.
