Smart little chuckie - Is it just me or does anyone else think something like that scaled up to about 8' would make a splendid thing for light wind days on the slope?

Hi Kent, here's a picture of the lower part of the rudder that if knocked on landing strips the servo and so will be reshaped . Funnily enough it was the general 'shapeliness' of the pod/fin that prompted me to build this plane, though the problem wouldn't arise as a free-flighter of course with a one piece tail.
Thanks for the skid suggestion, probably will fit that as a keel/row of hooks integrated with the shape of the lower pod.

You might consider a Hitec 82MG servo with the metal gears. You won't strip them. We use them for our EPP slope ships and take tons of abuse.

No, not the case. A highly tapered tip is just one factor. Wing twist and airfoil selection can cure potential tip stall.

The videos shows a well behaved ship.

Ok..... my plan was a elliptic plank with the possibility of butterfly for easier landing in the mountains. Actually i use the outer airlerons with delta mix and the inner just as elevator plus butterfly.
The wing is complete straight without any twist. I used the old CJ 3309 airfoil. There is absolut no tipstall! with this configuration. The Mainspar is a torsion box made from 3mm plywood with 9mm pinewood spars inside. This gives us enough stifness. Since 3 or 4 designs I use a big cover at the left fuselage side for easier component handling. The fin airfoil is NACA 0009

A early version was build with just 2 airlerons, here we got problems with landing wihout butterfly

this version was too light. The stifness was also not that good. But for thermal gliding good enough
