Kinda like a VW, eh Brian ;>}

I grabbed that PDF. But on import I discovered that even tho there is Vector it is HUGE !
I've started linking line segments into whole closed curves but wheew ! it takes a lot of
computing to do it.

Oh well , it gives me lots of time to ponder the Cute vs Ugly issue.

Bob

BTW I really like the new shader on V5

Hey Bob,

Yes, the PDFs are interesting. Some of the curves and circles look like they've been vertorized from raster images. I don't think that's the case but regardless they do take a bit of work to get them in shape for cutting. In the end I also resized some of the material to what's available in the US.

I havent gotten that far yet

RE HVII:
I tried a view grab from v5 but it turned out lower rez so it doesnt show well.
Not sure if I like my canopy but it is fully filleted.

I also have an idea about the shaft coverings.
They are mostly planer and I believe that they could be VAC formed for the slightly
sucked in part under the cylinders.

Easily and bent around the formers to be a perfect fit.

No real parts progress yet.

Horten 9 V-1

Just rekitted this one after a nasty bungee launch crash. 10 oz. heavier now with a new glass skin over the balsa D tube sheeting. No complaints at the heavier weight.

Nice! Some more weight is often no problem for a Horten. The aerodynamics improve even sometimes.

Kent, that is AWESOME !!!!

What an excellent vid!

Beautiful wing flying so well in a magnificent location!

I gotta build that wing!

Which plan did you use?
Did you do any build pics or vids?

Tnx!

ha, ha, ha......
It's kind of a slow video. I've often thought that the only people watching my videos are shut-ins and myself.

The clouds were cool yesterday and the winds light enough to float around undisturbed. Much more fun to be there than watch the vid....

Here's the build log I design/built this before I had any idea of what is involved in a Horten style wing. Personally, I would not repeat this particular project.

If you are looking for a flying wing slope ship, consider a Zagi. So much easier to build and fly.

Aw shucks...
I guess it shows...
Yah, I'm kinda house-bound and therefore chained to the console...
Gotta break loose and your Horten 9 is inspirational!
(Well, along with a few others! :-) )

I'm not too far from Morro Rock, and perhaps I can learn enough to present a nice video for you, soon as I get some building done.

Yes, I'm familiar with the Zagi's and should take your advice for starters...
I have been considering a wing called the Fury Flyer that looks quite floaty and probably excellent to fly my little 808 cam.
(I just found 2G TF chips for $2.65 with free shipping from one of the asian vendors, so they are on the way, too.)

I'll go review your log now... thank you!
If you consider it tedious, perhaps I can hack it with foam I now have on hand???

Tnx again!

OMG, I was just joking about the shut ins....ha, ha, ha.

There must be some good slope sites around Morro Bay. At 59 years old, I find chasing a glider around the dunes to be great exercise.

If you haven't flown slope and haven't flown a flying wing then the Zagi would be a good starting point. Or any foam wing. Inexpensive, quick build and durable. Winglets solve a lot of problems. If you start a thread about your project here on the Nurflugel forum, you'll get a lot of support. Just post some sketches and let the comments flow in.

BTW, have you seen Vern's foam Hortens?

I fear they are going to be too effective, but hey, I'll not have to deploy them completelly . The mechanism I designed with Michael seems to work very well. It was not easy, considering that the spoiler is 47 cm long and it had to be assembled and installed directly in/through the wing.

All I can say is Wow!
There is SO much in that blog/build thread that you posted!!!
As a newbie, it's gonna take a LOT for me to get up to speed! Wow!

It is amazing to hear the wind in the mic and watch how very stable the Horten is flying!
I can't recall seeing anything so stable.

Hey Kent, no shut-in here.

I not only watch them, I download them - to get a smoother review - and watch them several times.

I like the flying site almost as much as your flying. Now lurking in wait for Plank102

Wow. Considering it's location in the wings lift distribution, that's probably over 20% of the wings lift will be affected.....seems like a good starting point. And the drag increase should be profound.

As a pilot of such a sleek ship, it will be nice to be able to slow it down and turn it into maybe a rather heavy 4m ship as opposed to sleek 5m ship. Now that I think of it, 4m and draggy will still probably out fly most of my fleet.

It's all different when you go long and skinny.....not that I would know.
