That is true but he only mentioned a more powerfull motor and nothing about placement for or aft of factory setting.

I let the motor wires come out the vent hole in front of motor , ESC velcro'd
on top then let wires from the ESC run down in cockpit area - cut a grove just big enuff for the wires , so canopy fit snug

Thank you Tom, I have done this before of having the ESC on top but twice my Easy star landed upside down so now I am little worried about where to place the ESC.

What about the ESC being inside the plane under wing attachment area.

For CF insert I used CF 1x3mm flat.
All you have to do is cut the foam to about 3mm deep with sharp blade then run the CF insert through the cut few time , dry fit it take it our and fill the grove with glue insert and press CF in and wait till glue dries.

anyhow if you dont want to extend battery wires on ESC I would mount it traditionally on top right above the wings.

Just don't extend them a foot.
Almost every plane I have has extended battery wires to the esc.

supposedly shortens the ESC life but few inches should not hurt anything.

Depends on the shipping service, USPS, UPS, Fedex, etc. and the level of service, if you are asking about the United States Postal Service, it depends on the service you pay for, Namely, Express Mail ( Overnight also most expensive, Priority Mail ( 2-3 days, less costly then Express, Parcel Post (2-8 days, least costly.) and varies with the size and weight of the parcel, and the actual distance to be shipped, see here for a comparison of these service levels:

While I agree to the idea of keeping the wires as short as possible short (for several reasons), I'd say that it is a very questionable statement that "extending the wires shortens ESC life".

We may kill the ESC by introducing too much inductance (long wires), but that would happen immediately in 99% of the cases, and otherwise the ESC would happily live on forever:

The semiconductors and passive components used in our ESCs are normal industry grade parts that are designed to last for years and years of non-stop use, and our ESCs normally don't get many hours on the clock before being replaced or being submerged and crashed to death.

As when installing a new ESC, do check a re-wired, ESC for getting excessively warm before flying, and if that doesn't happen it will probably live forever or until the final crash....
