So far I've noticed that the motors will pop out of the retaining clip after a hard crash. Not sure if I want to fix that as it could prevent breakage. However one of them popped out so far it ripped out a motor wire and I had to do some tricky soldering to fix it.

Also, I managed to mess up one of the white plastic gears in a crash and it doesn't mesh smoothly with the spur gear on the motor. It still flies, but it takes a second to spool up that one prop so I'm going to get a replacement. Not sure there is any real way to avoid that from occurring other than not crashing.

Finally, does anyone have a cheap source for the little JST to micro adapter wire that comes with this? I have a 4 port charger that came with my MSR that I would like to use to charge 4 of the MQX batteries at the same time but I need 3 more adapters. Can't seem to find them on HobbyKing but I'm sure they are out there somewhere.

Going to order some of these props and these batteries today.

This can be found on RCGroups user Pancari's blog:

I've printed out and made the red one. They're pretty simple and good "first time" canopies to make if you've never done this sort of thing before.

The red one looks pretty cool. Didn't have any photo paper, so just make it from regular copy paper...came out ok.

MQX with custom canopy

This is a canopy I made with packaging that my waterproof Battery Tender came in. This was a fun project and I wish I had 10 more of these I could customize.

WLToys V929 parts on MQX?

I'd expect it's already covered here *somwhere*.
But I'm having difficulty finding it with searching.
Does anyone know if it's documented here if the WLToys V929 parts:
motors, landing pods, carbon shafts blades etc. are directly interchangeable with the mQX?

Especially the motors..
I need a new set and don't really want to spend $15ish each on 4 of them if I don't have to.

Thanks!!

I think I'm going to go have some fun with glow paint and u/v LEDs.
At the moment stock canopy with some bright blue & white LEDs.

Ive got both and the motors, gears, props seem identical.. the motor holder has a slightly different molding, but the parts and positioning looks identical..arms are the same, size and spacing.. it only looks like the hub molding and control board is where they significantly vary..
I bought the 929 to do my learning on, bash that one before bashing up the MQX.. however the 929 is very good out of the box, even with it being a cheepo, it flys and bounces very well...lol...
.. The MQX I bought because it links to my spectrum gear..it is also, very good as we all know.
ebay has the v929 motors at half the mqx price

Thank! & good to know.
They are $15 each from the LHS ($60+tax+gas) to drive out & get a set.
I'm sure you can get them a bit cheaper online..

I think I'll try one round of V929 motors and see how it goes.
I do indeed love the mQX and have put some miles on mine since getting it about 2 months ago.
Since I've had to replace one motor (Front CW black/whit wire) didn't last long.
I'm not sure if that is a defect or was due to my very hard flying and crashing.
I do work this thing to it's limits and fly it a lot.
All 4 motors are almost 'out' of brass pinion.. the teeth are worn almost all the way through.
It seems as though the nylon is outliving the brass (more surface area).
I am care ful to keep the gears clean and bearings cleaned/oiled.
Sometimes there is no avoiding getting dirt/dust into the items, but I keep them cleaned out flushed and re-oiled very often.
*my* other high fail item is the carbon fiber arms/booms whatever they're called..
In my crashing they split easily and become weak and very easy to twist lengthwise.
This causes unwanted twisting/fluttering in flight and oscillations with the motors and AS3X responding to the low frequency vibrations.
A complete set of new booms is around $20 from the LHS when/IF they have them in stock.
I'll make my own from now on.
I'm good/fast with solder heat gun & tiny shrink tubing :-)
The carbon square hollow rods (arms) material is hard to find.. (V929 arms might be compatible at ~$1.5 each) looks like they don't come prewired. Are they just as strong?
I ordered 4 feet of this: http://www.dragonplate.com/ecart/pro...D=3659&cID=103
For around $7

You are right, they aren't pre-wired, but they are very strong. Stronger than the v929 stock arms
I'm using magnetwire for wiring.
