Sorry for your loss!

I have both a big tabby cat , and golden retrivers (4). I know your sorrow will pass...it just takes time. It's hard to lose such loving and caring pets, when I have looked at them for so long as kids, and they have always been there. I've been there. I wish you the best, and feel your loss, John

So sorry to hear about your buddy. I know how it is. We as humans need to realize that our pet friends will not live as long as we do. It is a hard thing to go through. Death is a part of life. Be glad you had a long time with him, and know he is in a better place.

Sorry for your loss.
I've had many cats over the years. Each time I had to say goodbye to one of them, it teared me apart... the only though appeasing my sadness was, and still is, to think of all the wonderful years spent together. 18 years is well old for a cat, it must have had a good life and been taken well care of...

My wife and I had a cat that also lived for 18 years. Next to my missus, Cali was the best buddy that I ever had. About a month after Cali passed away, we adopted another cat we named Abby from the shelter and later a kitten we named Alice. Our two "girls" are absolutely wonderful, but my wife and I still miss Cali a lot. Mr. Bert was very lucky to have you as you were to have him. My deepest sympathies!

Thank you all for posting. My wife and I have no children, and Mr Bert had no siblings, so we needed each other. He was a stray, who decided he was going to live with us no matter what. My wife is allergic to cats, but was not allergic to Bert, he was always very clean. When my wife worked nights, Bert learned how to whisper or meow with out sound, and if I didn't see him meow, he would cough and tap my knee to get mt attention. Bert liked to go outside, and we put a small pet door to the back yard so he could go out when he wanted to.

To us Bert was something special..........

Your words are very moving Scott.
For sure he can never be replaced but I hope you and your wife will be fortunate enough to find another friend like Mr. Bert, to share and enrich your lives.

I know how sad you must feel Scott, been there many times ourselves over the last fifty years with a succession of loved cats, all individual characters and everyone brought their own brand of happiness. Just before we moved to France I lost my workshop buddy, Lucifer, who used to spend hours and hours sitting by me in the workshop, just purring gently and watching me build, it left a big hole. We have two five year old cats now, and the male, Mr. Jones, has taken over as my building buddy, just of his own accord, strange really.
