Hey Andy,

do you know what other airplane, besides the Rare Bear, Rod Lewis owns? His museum has a Canadian F-5.

Mine are the ER40, the ones in that thread are the the ER50's desighed for 88 pound planes. Mine are 1 1/4" deep so they will fit just by a hair.

Did a 200 mile road trip this weekend and took along the Voltron GPS data recorder for a test. Pretty cool little rig. The distance traveled matched my trucks odometer right on. The altitude was very accurate when I drove over Montgomery pass at 7100 feet, and the speed matched my trucks speedometer within 1/2 MPH the whole trip.

It will ride along on the T-38 on the next few flights to get some speed readings.

I got the new gear in the mail and they are very high quality but surprisingly even they don't have the strength to lift the 11oz strut and wheel. The long strut just provides too much leverage.

Looks like I may have to go to an air set of retracts .

Man Cave

I had a little chuckle today as I took out the trash and as I was walking back in my garage and seeing the view of the tailpipe and fuselage of the T-38, the back end of the Suzuki 650, and in the background a boxing dummy. I almost did a Tim the tool man Taylor Arrrrr Arrrrr Arrrugggg, and thought...man cave...

I should take out the bicycle and EZ up on the right and hang up some posters of bikini models and stack a couple cases of beer along the wall...man cave..

you need to talk to David Searles over on rcu ,he has big Jets ,a hawk and a F-100 ,he had some electric gear that worked on his heavy large retracts in the F-100 and air gear in his 1:3.5 scale hawk.

If the gear units can take it maybe a separate power source with higher voltage will cure the problem, this will give them more torque (unfortunately also more speed).

Just a thought.

Just did a test with a set of air retracts I have and anything over 100 psi and I will be good to go. It raised the gear right up like it's not even trying hard. Anything below 100psi and it only gets it to about 3/4 of the way up. The gear are spring air retracts so if I loose presure during flight the gear will come down. I will return the expensive electrics and go with air.
