Another possibility Jacko!

Actually it was a 10x17 which would be perfectly suitable for our purposes with a slightly higher kV! I came across your post: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...0&postcount=29

Rpm from doppler gives reason to suspect 6S. 10k rpm means 5S.

Ordered a couple of sets of Powercroco folder blades from Marcus today.

9.8x17.5 and 8.5x23 for 28 Euros a pair of blades plus 3.60 Euros for postage. Should ship in one to two weeks.

So:
Motor - Check!
Airframe - Check!
Prop - Check!

Now just have to wait for delivery of said items........

(A GM 18x21 prop turned up today for my Enigma. I was frankly unprepared for how beautiful it is!)

Ah, there will be plenty of time to admire it as I'm a bit anxious about this Engima so it's currently head to head with my quarter scale Gee Bee Y as my slowest build ever!

(Although I'm running out of excuses quickly. Joe emailed this morning to say my P180 logic board has arrived safely in old Blighty ready for it's "Big George" mod. I thought that was a nice touch of Joe's to let me know as I feel like an expectant parent! Once the logic board returns I have everything to complete the build except for the elephantine gonads of course!)

My blades turned up today!

I was also pleased to find that they will fit the 38mm RFM yoke and spinner with only a small bit of grinding of the spinner to make room for the blade roots. Haven't tried my 30mm spinner yet though!

The blade roots are big on these blades as they are made for Speedcup use which means big power and high rpms. Marcus posted last week that his newest Speedcup plane will peak at 12kW! ( http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...87&postcount=5 )

Since my Summit and possibly an X Plane are still some time away, my trusty old Plasma will getting a make over this weekend.

Dr Marcus Koch - 9.8 x 17.5 Blades

Today I got to very briefly run my new Koch 9.8 x 17.5 on an RFM spinner, Kontronic Kira 480-31 5.2:1 and Turnigy 5 cell 1800mAh 30-40C battery in my Plasma II and was pleasantly surprised at the nice mix of acceleration and speed.

Inflight reasonably level and unloaded gave:
17.6 volts or 3.52 volts per cell at 17% discharge
59 amps
1034 watts
10,715 rpm or a pitch speed of approximately 178 mph

Sounded nice too!

Dr Marcus Koch - 8.5 x 23 Blades

Today I ran my new Koch 8.5 x 23 blades on an RFM spinner, Kontronic Kira 480-31 5.2:1 and Turnigy 5 cell 1800mAh 30-40C battery in my Plasma II and was excited at the speed. The acceleration was obviously slower that of lower pitch blades but was more than adequate!

Inflight reasonably level and unloaded gave:
17.5 volts or 3.5 volts per cell at 26% discharge
49.6 amps
867 watts
10,629 rpm or a pitch speed of approximately 232 mph (373kph)

Now the above results were a surprise to me because you'll notice that in the ICE graph, the prop rpm ACTUALLY REDUCED along with current and wattage from the beginning of the run to the end. I actually checked each run and they are the same! That is so different to what I'm used to with square or undersquare props where the rpm increases as the prop unloads as the planes accelerates up to top speed.

Did put a smile on my dial!

It's only a couple of hundred rpm drop, could be voltage. Its definetly different though!

thats some nuts pitch speed for such low watts!

The big question is, was it fast?
