Is molded JW on sale now? What is the price?

Last time I checked website, it was still in developing stage.

Will crunchies absorb shock as well as foamies?

My foamy JW is getting slow after so many patch ups.

An oldie but goody Simitar Saracen variants

Hi Guys,

If you aren't familar with Bill Evans Simitar tail less series, its really an airfoil that allows you to use which ever span, sweep, or planform yet end up with a nice flying slope ship. The one in the photo is my own variant, called the AstroShock. It was original done as an electric powered plane but figured that was a waste of a perfectly good sloper :-).

The first variant in the entire Simitar line was the Saracen, done in RCM magazine or may Model Aviation as a build. Sheeted foam core wings, its a quick build with a balsa box fuse. The Saracen has a bird like nose and simple vertical at the back, vary much like the Moth...but 60" span. Definitely not a DS speedster but still a fun sloper.

My favorite variant has a slight and matching leading edge taper built with the bottom of the wing flat so that it appears to have anhedral.

Great thread thanks for the photos. I have sloped many of the greats spots around the world, so can definitely appreciate good slope ships!

I included a photo of my Flying Rainbow, its too pretty and too crunchy to chance on the slope, its actually a very serious thermal ship. I'll admit to having some foam (moth, Bat, zipper, etc) but there's nothing like flying crunchies :-).

Nice flying Nick, just watched the Poky40 video!

That was a great save! Most would have chickened out being that far in the hole.

Guys if you haven't seen this video, you need to take a look. Very impressive flying and the plane has some serious capabilities.

Circa.

This is my new hollow moulded plank: "Circa".
I just finished painting the stripes on it today. I will maiden it before giving it an all over clear coat.
1500mm span. PW51 aifoil. AUW ~ 1.6 kg with provision for 650 grams of ballast for that big day out at Mount Borah!

Jim.

edit: AUW is 2 kg.!

Don't forget the ZupAir!

For you guys interested in a serious thermal flying wing, this one is it.

I own the Flying Rainbow (pictured below) which seems to be the forerunner to the ZupAir and it flies fantastic and about 4 times the weight.

Just ordered a ZupAir - Take a look at the video showing using flaps, its amazing!

I pity the fool doesn't get one of these ships! :-)

Algebratross

Although not yet a sloper, my brother Roger is currently part way into a homebuild intended as a DS ship, the "Algebratross".

Being hand-crafted from wood/glass/kevlar with limited carbon reinforcements (it's for 2.4 Gigs) & a final, yet to be applied & fully shaped, wing covering in carbon.

Likely weight 3.5 lbs with total wing area of about 2 square feet.

I can't wait to see the final paint scheme

pokey 40

Here is my lateset pair of molded planks

The red and white one is my light all arounder at 11.0 oz. AUW. and it seems to like wind up to 30 mph and still penetrates fine,I DS'd this plane in 20 mph winds and it loved it.

The black and white one is span ballasted with 3 oz. in each wing tip and has a spread tow carbon lay-up on the wing. the AUW came in at 17.6 oz.
I expect it will be a bit more fun in bigger air.

Nice poky's nick.. At 17 oz still is very light. At 30 it would start to get on step.
Do you know what airfoil they use ??
And BTW what is next to the cheese and biscuits ???? the pink and white stuff..also cheese??

Nice wings but Newky Brown and CHEESE AND BICCIES???? Have you gone mad? You need a 'Pucka' pie (http://www.pukkapies.co.uk/) from the takeaway with that Or perhaps not...
