Wow! Ive never seen a wing and fuse moulded in one like that! How do you go with boom strength due to having no seam?
It'd be great to open a mould and out comes the whole plane!

Hi,
using the quietness of saturday mornings i finished off the little fella.
Just odds and ends...
Like blocking off the ail linkages so they won`t come off the servo and installing the battery hold down.
This little assembly might have your intrest, a bit fiddely but only a10 mins of work and it weights just about nothing- or even less
(quite important on planks as CoG is quite crucial)

Well as mentioned this is just a cut off Toppits (tailed version).
having such heavy layups (like 5 layers of cf) in the boom always did lead to problems when seaming. for the first 5 or so planes i used peel-py (to roughen the surface ) and seamed it with an aditional layer,... using a ballon while curing..
Sometimes, no matter how hard you tried the layer sneaked out the seam and thus the booms, their joints respectively, where the weak spot of our planes.
Now i just cut the flanges flush and glue in a gf-tube, which is made of two layers of fg "socks".Forward part has an additional layer of 110gr. keflar in betweeen.(peelply on outside to assist glueing).
Lots of (read 2-3 gr. on such a tiny plane) splooge will get the tube centered .
The ballast tube just fits in this tube from the front .
When closing the mould splooge is used to glue the boom together, just like your trad. LE and TE.
So basically the whole plane is solid till aprox 2 cm in front of the ails.
As the splooge goes around the whole perimeter the joint is unlikely to break open -ever
As a side effect this gives a material thickness of 2,5-3 mm (slightly more than 1/10 of an inch) on the boom.

only the tailgroup needs to be bagged seperately

Hi there,
after a quick maiden off the bungee yesturday ( one click of downtrimm - thank you Toni for finding such a sweet setup ) me and Toni took the 2,5 hr. hike today to one of our favorite spots.
Arriving there, we found the wind beeing somewhat off thus making for a very bunpy backside. Also there was just some 15 knots - so Ballast stayed in the backpack.
Anyway, even flying very conservative produced 105 mph.
Not too bad for a first outing.
Handling is just as sweet as the tailed versions - probably not a record breaker but very much fun to fly

Gonna enjoy this plane in future for sure...

What's the airfoil Flo?, and did you find you needed to change your trim for different speeds?

Yeah. Well done flo! I am also a fan of using a bungee for first flight, especially if there is no suitable site or wind around at the time.

I hope to get to moulding another of my "Circa" over the silly season break.
I just need to make sure I have all the materials in stock in advance.

Thanks all.
Airfoil is a thinned MH43.
What amazes me most is the fact that a section not meant to fly tailless just works fine. It really is quiet- even when going fast...good sign in my book.

Just proves that with DS nothing really matters (just kidding)

Of course there would be even more efficient/faster sections availible ( especisally if one of your flying buddies is DP ) but it is just a very easy Way to get hold of a fine flying FUN DS plank. A Short cut so to speak....
witch brings me nicely to anounce my decition to name this little Fella:

SHORTCUT

Trims change very slight only, i have programmed in a fraction of down for speed and a fraction more for the DS phase. Works without the need of further trim.

Great, seems that flying wing sections are not as critical as we all used to think hey!
I did the same thing with my tailed plane called the scorcher and made a plank out of it. I havn't flown it a lot yet bt so far it seems really good, just needing a bit of reflex.

Dave did a similar thing and used the flaps for reflex and elevator and the ailerons for ailerons. It went well
