When I wrote 5000-4000 was for 5000 or 4000 fixed values, not VBR to 4000 to 5000.

The 7000 Mbps setting is not worth bothering trying to optomize. The codec will vary the bit rate according to the scene complexity anyway, and it's better to have it a little high than a little low. There's a lot more important things being worked on.

I always keep the camera in a small box. I mount the W-67 only on the box.
The #16 with W-67 is a nice toy

255-16.avi (0 min 53 sec)

257-16.avi (0 min 21 sec)

only #11 for better center
259-11.avi (0 min 7 sec)

Hi guys,
Im new to the site and i just got one of these camera to film some track fotage from my motorbike.

Just wondered if any of you have any suggestions for mounts and vibration dampening?

There isnt really anywhere to mount the camera flat so i need to come up with something that can hold the camera flat but attaches at a 90 degree angle and also reduces vibration and stays on at 150mph

Please offer any ideas you have
Thanks Karl

Could your problem be related to a weaker than normal battery? Do you have a replacement battery you could try? Some have reported receiving these cams with weaker batteries than others have. Just a thought as I've not had a problem using my #3's in cold weather.

There are handlebar mounts available (see #11 Frankencam [post #5, I think] and less expensive one here, but the vibration on a track will be a killer. You'd be better off if you can make an attachment for your helmet, I'd think.

Speaking only from personal experience, nothing dampens the shock and vibration as much as your spine does, so I have to agree on a helmet mount.

I have tried many things myself (including moongel, velcro, hard mounts, you name it...) but the camera is too light to benefit from any of those. It has almost no inertia, so it moves with the slightest vibration. Some people suggested an unsprung position helps, but didn't work for me (although it was a bit better).

I assume you'd like a bike mount, especially if you don't want to record your swift head movements, but I haven't come across any magic bullets myself.

I know I haven't been of any help, except maybe saving some trial and error time, but the only good tip I can give is always have a safety tie, from camera to the frame, helmet strap etc. You never know when these little things cannot handle the speed any more and decide to come off...

you didn't say where on the bike you wanted the mount. But once you have something stick the camera to that with velcro and then wrap it down to the mount with electrical tape, leaving the buttons exposed. Three turns should be enough for 150 mph though I admit I don't ride my bike that fast. Then go on the track and test and see if vibration is a problem or not. If you live come back and show us the video.

I remember microscope slides as a kid in school. Some slides had a depression and then weren't there little peices of a thinner material that could go on top of the depression? Those would probably be optically clean too and may be a hobby store sells them (are there still hobby stores?).

It's a good idea... I just don't want to be the "owner" of more threads. There's already four threads I started here just for the #11, #16, #18, and 1080 keychain cameras, and they take more time than I wanted to dedicate to keeping then focused and maintained.

But anyone can start a thread in the other forum I can still link to it from here.
Hello Tom,

So, I started the thread in DIY Electronics

Collection and discussion of hacks, mods, improvements for KEYCAMS & other MiniCams

and linked the projects that i know.

I would be very happy, if you would put the link in your Post #5.
I think, it is a great thing, to find all projects for the cams at one location.

have a nice day

christian

Sure, it's done!... thanks for authoring the thread. If you haven't already looked, there some of these in the #11 thread as well in the "Frankencams" post (#5, I think).

no i only have the supplied battery but mine is a #16 and yours is a #3, entirely different circuit board if you look at the internals.

soft focus then fog

just had a weird problem, focus started to look soft, cleaned lens no better. looked inside couldn't see a focus ring on the lens. tested and soft focus had worsened to severe foggy image. tried re-set, no good. in desperation i re-installed mov25 firmware and bingo back to normal. seems that somehow the firmware became corrupted, strange.

Can anybody please help here?

Are you using a card with a class rating of 6 or 10? If yes, then the card is most probably your problem .

Click here to view the list of problematic cards.

If your card is not on the list, try another card (preferably class 4), and tell us the brand name, capacity and class rating of your current card.

If the card is not the problem, then your battery may not be charging properly because your USB cable is not working. I doubt this if you managed to update the firmware using the camera as an external device.

Do you have the same issues when recording using an external USB power supply (not your computer)?

Does the green LED go out after max. 2.5 hours - it may blink occasionaly?

Sorry for all the questions, but we need more information to localize the cause.
