Or any other way to stabilise the wings on?

"Many"??? Are these people the "Charlie Brown" types who have only bad luck when flying a kite (X8 in this case)? I've flipped my X8 upside down during landings and flew it into a lamp post. The wings are NOT the weak point on this plane. You're over thinking this thing.

Do you have problems with me asking questions that I think is important for me, if so then you can directly PM me. Others don´t have to read this.

This is a good way to scare away people from forums and this hobby. But I know there are nuts in all hobbies and after my 37 years of model flying it takes more to scare me of. At least am I strong enough to write where I´m from.
I get so pissed of comments like that.

I don't have a problem. There's just no need to assert your "coolness" in a forum - it's awkward and strange.

The only problem people have had with the wings is that they can flap at high speeds (greater than 50 mph), but reinforcing them negates the issue. Just embed carbon spars in the wings with CA.

If you're interested in the X8 I would suggest you buy it. All airframes have cons and pros but the X8 has by now a long list of mods that can make it suitable for many purposes.

I guess it would be easier to say if the airframe is suitable if you list what you want to get out of it. It is VERY different then the Cap in almost everything except both being wings and have a pusher prop.

Cheers

I should add that the wings are the strongest part of the airframe, and the nose is the weakest. If you're used to the Caip's ability to withstand a nose-on collision with the ground, you'll have to change your landing style or it won't last long.

Agreed. I've had a single nose-in at low speed (but nasty AoA) and had to re-glue the seams and sort of un-scruntch some of the foam up front. The wings, while flexible, hold ok. You just need to make sure you don't have high-performance/high-speed expectations of the airframe and you should be fine with the few common mods listed in this thread (extra carbon spars and reinforcement, extreme packing tape and possibly a covering like laminate or vinyl wrap, etc)

The reason the X8 has a reputation for "weak" wings, has nothing to do with
their ability to take a crash. It's all about high speed flex and twist. Stock
wings with stock wing joiner will flap at high speeds, especially if you try to go fast
low level bumpy air. It can be quite dramatic, and can lead
to total destruction of the airframe. It wouldn't be an issue if the plane
wasn't naturally pretty fast. Loaded up with fpv gear and a couple batteries,
if you pitch it over into a medium angle dive with the motor off, it will easily accelerate
to it its flutter speed, if you don't reinforce the wings. Mine will dive at 70+mph,
power off.

I would never build an X8 without at least increasing the size of the stock joiner
and reinforcing the wings in some way. My current X8 has carbon ribbons
top and bottom to stop flex, and 3mil laminating on the forward half to 2/3rd of
the wing (wrapped around the leading edge), to reduce twist.

I addressed the weak nose with Kevlar cloth (detailed earlier in the thread).

Exactly what I needed to hear.

What kind of Laminate do you use, and do you also know where to buy it? How do you stick it to the wing?

Kevlar do I use first then the first crash is done.
Thanks
Ken

My opinion is that X8 is to fast wing for FPV
I think this from HK SkyEye

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...ighlight=skyey

is better platform for FPV. Lower speed and gliding

Are you flying the X8?? Do you have any experience with it? The X8 is as slow or as fast as you want it to be. It cruises very happy at 60Km/H which is a perfect speed for FPV. You can slow it to 45-50Km/H without any problem.
