that they're different planes for different tasks, including in this thread. Some people think the X8 is a plane that can zoom up and down steep mountain-sides. It is not. They'll learn. Quote:
shape, and whether it has an effect on yaw and roll stability. ggtronic brought the ZII into this thread because he thinks that putting ZII style winglets on an X8 will steady it on the roll axis. I do not. But I am curious if it'll have a negative or positive effect on yaw stability. I'm not convinced that the X8 is yaw stable only because of sweep. I think the airfoil shaped winglets may help. Guess we'll find out when ggtronic changes em. And yes, I'm well aware of what the Zephyr can do and I do not consider it a direct competitor to the X8 *at all*. If you're reading that into what I've said, then you're simply reading me wrong. I haven't completed mine because I'm too lazy to cram the gear in the wing, and that's about it. Same reason I'm not flying any other pure flying wing for FPV. That and I like having a pannable flight camera with unobstructed side view. ian |

I have the Zeph Blunt 66" and it is a great flyer but its speed envelope makes some of the gear difficult to tune. The FY21AP cannot cope with the high speed dives capable in the zeph and still provide good stabilisation when flying slowly in the wind.. It flutters like crazy.
I am using only about 10% gain on it for the best compromise. Placing the gear also requires a lot of forethought given it all has to be cut in. Owning and flying both regularly, I find myself flying the X-8 more, mostly because I am preferring to fly very low and quietly. I have dairy cattle.....I dont want to put them off their milk. They're very different animals |

agree ... actual motor+prop are temporary... balance is not so bad... wing wobeling also get things worst... and camera is not properly fix... i did not built this platform for video... if so i would install GOPRO and balance the folding prop already... sorry for the HDkey chain jello effect ![]() next step : --camera instalation pointing down (Ortho-Mosaic) --APM2 test... |

don't just balance it for the video - the vibrations will ruin every part of the plane if you leave them. the motor will have the most problems and will have a drastically decreased lifespan. ask me how i know

Just throwing this out there to anyone who finds this of interest/help.
No thrust or pitch-speed data below I know, but I measured this yesterday using the optional motor supplied by BevRC for the X8, paired with a range of Aeronaut CAM folding props on a 3S set-up. (I'm scratching my head slightly with the 13x11 and 13x10 comparison. I noted the exact same oddity though when comparing these props on a Scorpion motor.) |

A less aggressive dive would have produced a lot more margin. The
drag goes up with square of airspeed, so diving steeply burns off energy that you won't get back in distance when you level out. Better to pick an angle that gets your ground speed up without maxing out your airspeed. ian |
